Yeah, both tuners I mentioned recommend a reflash for "tune it and forget it" reliability and ease. I would love that, but I want more. To get more, I have to be willing to give up some reliability for get more options and control.

I don't expect this to be my last tune. But I do expect to develop a positive relationship with my tuner with open communication and honest work practices. (ie if they recognize that they made an error, admit to it, and we'll work a fix together). I read enuff to know that tuning is not an exact science and there are many variables which may affect various aspects of a car's performance or reliability. I can live w/ it.

I'm realistic. I expect good service, good communication, and competitive pricing.

Like in the example post, I am not pointing fingers ant anyone. It is just common sense.

Hyundai has like 1,000,000 million mile warranty or some ****. Basically come in any time with any problems and they will take care of it. Hehe, if Hyundai was a better car, they wouldn't need to do that to lure in the customers.

Sure, I can go to a hair salon and get a haircut. Then notice that it is totally screwed and go back to fix it. Sure the hair dresser will giggle with me and fix it. But does that make him a good hair dress?

In terms of my car, I never had a problem. It was tuned a total of 4 times in 3 years.

First time it got tuned, I won the Power and 1/4 Shootout portions of the first ever SCC WRX Shootout and schooled AVO Turbo, M2 and SPO cars. Ran 12.8 @ 105 with turboback, uppipe and VF22.

Second time the car got tuned, I ran 12.4 @ 109 with the same mods as above + IC pipes and intake.

Third time my car got tuned, it made 305hp on pumpgas on EJ20.

Fourth time my car got tuned, it made 312hp and 290ft.lbs of torque on a built motor on pump gas.

Now let me remind you, that 1-3 tuning attemps were done by the same tuner who tuned that same longblock out of my car for Gary Sheehan when Garry "borrowed it" from me for 3 races, two of which he had one and one nearly won because the engine started go let go.

Hehe, did I mention the tuner's name once? No. Do you see the tuner over here beating himself in the chest trying to look "nice" and "friendly" here? No. Do you thinj he read this thread? You bet he did.

For the record, I want to say that Bill K. is a good tuner. I have been in the cars he had tuned and they were impressive. No question about it. I never said that Bill was not good. Once again, 100's of customers that Bill has proves that.

Hey Chris, you are welcome for the magazine plug, per se.

Where did I say that I go out of my way to help i-Club grow?

You sure will be hearing about my project soon enough.

I did say not what I said to get you to say what you are saying if you know what I mean. But if you try to lowblow me, my project and my tuner, you'll at least get a little flick on your ***** yourself, hehe. I am not serious. I mean I am, but not any more or any less than I always am. Not mad. Not pissed off. Just having a good time. And, I don't have a problem with Bill.

Good luck in LA.

I'm confused and this thread is getting wierd.

I was just hoping to get some info on local tuners. Either from them directly and/or testimonies from their customers. It doesn't have to be public, I'd appreciate PMs as well.

just looking for some info.

thanks,

dan.

I am not taking ****.

I just said that the willingness of any customer service related business to "take care of any problems that come up after" does not make that business good if there is need to come back to fix and take care of problems that came up after the initial serive are there.

Was not saying that to anyone. Just stating what I feel is common sense. Thats all.

Bad english this, yo!

Dan, while it is perfectly fine to ask people for advice, it usually never turns out good when it comes to Bay Area tuners, lol. People starts misreading what other people are saying. People start getting butthead and put words in other people's mouthes.

There are few tuners in the area. Each of those tuners has a large "die-hard" following that get at each others' throats all the time. So, to hear someone praise their tuner, does not always mean that that tuner is better. In some cases it simply means that they hate the OTHER tuner for or without a reason. These kind of questions ALWAYS get answered in the most BIASED way possible. I am not saying that it is bad. It is just normal. Thats just how it is, and people, for the most part, learned to accept it.

So, you have your choice of tuners in the area. Each has + and -. Do a bit of your own reaserch on few of the message boards and figure out who best suits you. All tuners are good in their own special ways. They are like superheros, hehe. Each has a superpower. Just pick one. After all, nobody here can be stupid enough to simply say that any of the local vendors are total idiots and should be avoided. Why? Because we don't have tuners like this here. They would have never made it. So, basically, it is all a matter of personal prefernce.

Like if you come here and ask what you should drink. Coke, Pepsi or Capri Sun. While there will be people swearing by one or the other, they are all good drinks. If someone was to tell you to drink ****water, we would definetely warn you. Otherwise, just pick one.
