I need a local tuner

I'm on my way to stage 4.

I've secured all the components. Now I need a mastermind.

So far, I've spoken w/ Shiv and emailed back and forth w/ Bill K.
Both were great but they seem busy and I'm considering finding someone who is more readily available.

I'm not knocking those guys...they are busy for a reason, and I will likely end up using one of them, but for now, I'd like to give other tuners a chance to win me over. So if you are a tuner or know of a good one...let me know.

BTW, Bill has been great at answering my emails, but he's now in southern cal and our schedules may not work out.

Bill from I-speed, he will take more time out of his schedule than any other tuner out there, he's in socal cuz i-speed competed in the SCC Challenge and his x-wing rs is down there... but he comes down often and I just got tuned from him and im very happy..

I agree with Steve, Bill is great at answering phone calls and customer service is top notch, and you will not get ignored when you have problems unlike some tuners

It's worth the wait, go with I-Speed.

I just had my rex tuned by Bill last month. He was awesome. You won't be disappointed.

In addition to Vishnu Performance and I-Speed USA, there's also S-Squared Motorsports in the Sacramento area. S-Squared has a Mustang AWD dyno and Nate can tune using EcuTek or a standalone for race purposes.

What parts are you putting on?

Are you looking for an Installer or a Tuner for ECUtek? Or both?

I'm thinking I'll install most (if not all) the components myself. But I could always use a hand...

I want to go the Utec route.

Looks like Bill is well supported here. Yeah, he's been great at answring my questions, but he won;t be back up here till end of Sept...that's a bit late for me.

I would think that there were more tuners here.

more feedback please.

I don't want to go too much into detail about the parts I'm planning to install...like to keep it on the down low...you know.

You wish that there were more tuners here? We are really lucky to have so many competant Subaru shops in a relatively close radius.

Give Nate at S-Squared Motorsports a call at (916)631-7440. He can work some magic for ya

This part is a little confusing. UTEC is fine for user tuning but if you're going to pay someone to professionally tune your car the EcuTek reflash would probably be a better choice. Did you ask Bill or Shiv what they recommended in the way of tuning tools for your car?

my personal opinion is that its worth the wait....as most tuners can get you similar results in power gains, in the end it comes down to who will help you out when you have problems and who is there when you need assistance, that is a big factor when choosing your tuner and I know from personal experience that Bill will be there if you do have problems.

that is the main reason why I choose bill, what happens if your car starts to bog or act funny a month after the tune? Bill would be happy to diagnose the problem

You shouldnt have problems after the car is tuned right. If it does, it was not tuned right to begin with. I am not pointing any fingers. Just thats how I would feel.

For example, if someone asked me to install coilovers and I did. Every week they would clunk and you would come back to me to fix the problem. I would, every single time as random bolts were loose. Yes, I am very nice and helpfull. Yes, I was there for you. No, you should not let me install your coilovers.

Alex, you are pointing fingers, 1 at me and 4 at you. I admit sometimes the tune does not go as well as planned, every time it is not perfect, is anything perfect? Though most of the reasons for the tune going off course is either by way of improper install of parts, incorrect parts used, or me being tired and not thinking clearly (everyone knows my tuning schedule 8am till midnight, 6 days a week). Though all I can say is I do my best and if I don't feel it is my best I will reschedule with you to make sure we get the best. I guess I can't get enough of it, it's and addiction I tell you.

In any case you all have your choice for who you want to tune your car, I want to thank you for the support, it's what keeps me wanting to improve my own knowledge and tune more.

I will be back the first week of September for whoever is interested, though you are more than welcome to use any other tuner you feel comfortable with.

Cheers,
Bill Knose
I-Speed USA
