I'd love to help you but I'm in San Jose. When I do deck installs I don't waste my time soldering the harness, although it is the #1 recommended method for the most secure connection. I just use crimp connectors and keep the harness secured with zip ties.

Solder, trust me. You don't want to uninstall and reinstall because of a bad connection.

If you really get stuck, I can come up and help you out. I have the soldering equip. and all.

Is your 04 already wired? (I'm assuming it is since you just mention head unit)

I don't solder because I'm afraid of accidentally dropping hot solder on my interior or nicking something with the soldering iron. I've found that the way you twist the wires together affects how good of a connection you get. Usually, I strip the 2 wired, form a J shape, hook them to each other and then twist. Like how this guy does it:
http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2...-splice-wires/

Usually I'll wrap it in electrical tape then a bit of duct tape since the adhesive in duct tape seems to last for many more years that black electrical tape. The adhesive in duct tape should outlast the car =)
If i want to go the extra mile, the crimp connectors like the ones they sell at radio shack can be used instead of tape.

You can solder the harness in your kitchen.

For gauge installs and stuff where you want to solder inside the car, I reccommend this (click on the image):

Put some aluminum foil under the wires you're soldering and no drips no worries.

The other thing I would highly recommend is liquid electrical tape. It's pretty badass.
