Hey guys I have a 02 wrx and I just got my 6 speed in the mail today . I think I have everything for the swap .......but I just want to make sure with all of you before I start. here it goes;

all of the following are off a 2006 sti

sti transmission $2500

shifter linkage $0
clutch fork $0
rear differential $223
all 4 sti axles $100 (for all 4 axles)
slave cylinder $0
all 4 hub's and knuckles $50 each=200
Driveshaft= Free. I gave a guy my wrx driveshaft along with the two front wrx axles (straight across swap)

total =$3023 plus $392 for shipping having a grand total of......$3416 (+fluids and S*it so around 3500)

this transmission has 5k miles on here and I got all this for $3500 shipped

I just want to know if I have everything. lemme know......I have done a lot of research on this, but I just want to be 100% sure with you guys first.

Who is doing the install?

Sorry I can't offer much help on parts, I've only had experience with auto->manual not 5speed->6speed

Myself and my buddy. He works is a mechanic @ Toyota and he has a sti. Between the two of us I think we should handle it pretty easy. Oh, as soon as I start the swap, I will start taking pictures and start a step by step on how to do it. I will list every single part and what-not to finish a 02 wrx to 6 speed swap. stay tuned.

Hey ... cool killer deal ... but your still missing some parts ...

Rear knuckles,hubs and brembo brakes and lines from an 04 sti to keep the 5x100
(if you do the rear you might as well get all four bremobos and front hubs also.)

The STI axels wont fit your WRX Hubs.. Theres ways to get around it but its more harder to find.. but geting a rear diff from a 91-93 turbo legacy with a automatic wrx drive shaft

*If you change the front you would need sti struts for the fronts

Flywheel (new)IMHO
Clutch (new)IMHO
drive shaft
STARTER recommended

also take your VSS 2 off your 5 speed and put it on your 6 speed.

cheers

Sweet. I'm sure others will find your guide rather helpful.

Okay guys I have the 6 speed transmission up in the car. However I ran into a couple questions. Here it goes, hope you guys can help me out;

Everything is going together however.....I had bought 06 sti hub's and knuckles! Now here is my question; Will those 06 sti hub's and knuckles bolt up to my struts or do I have to buy sti struts for the front or the back or both? If I have to buy sti struts, what year sti and do any of you have them for sale?

Here is the list of parts that I have already;

06 sti trans
06 sti driveshaft
06 sti dccd
06 sti hub's/knuckles
06 sti axles (4)

I will be posting pictures up later this week, thanks

good luck with the dccd!! i will take this thread into good use in the future so PLEASE keep it detailed man im stoked for you

u will need the front sti struts to fit on 05+ knuckles, i had to drill out a set of 05 sti fronts to fit my 05 wrx knuckles on an old project suspension, they wont fit so buy new struts!! or better yet, i saw some GR coilovers in the norcal classifieds section

I finished doing my swap and will post pictures up as soon as I have time. In the mean time here is the exact list I used for every single part needed for this swap.

**note, my car is a 2002 wrx with a 2006 sti transmission**

2006 sti transmission (went with this 06 sti trans because the gearing is the same as 2002 wrx diff, no need to change diff's, however if the dccd is not used, the transmission from the 06 sti will default to 60/40. 60% in the rear and 40% up front. Having said that, our 02 wrx rear diff's will not hold up too long, so a sti diff should be used in the near future. ---make sure you get the sti cradle because the wrx transismission cradle is different-----also, your sti transmission SHOULD come with the reverse lock out, and the shifter linkage, you will need all this-----

driveshaft from a 2006 sti. (I used my stock rear diff off my 02 wrx because I wanted to see how low I can keep the cost down because if I used the knuckle/hub's I would of had to buy struts etc...). Therefore I used my stock rear diff and just enlarged the holes on the sti driveshaft) OR......just buy a auto driveshaft for $50, The guy I got my transmission off of gave a sti driveshaft so I just use that one (score=FREEBEEEEE )

you can reuse your wrx flywheel/clutch/starter unless you want to upgrade for clutch (note; sti starter and wrx starter are the same). I already had a act light weight flywheel and heavy duty clutch kit so I left it alone. **note; light weight flywheels in a 02 wrx sometimes throw a cell for misfire***

reuse your wrx front axles with these part numbers/parts. Stubs (part # 38415AA110) and seals (parts # 806730042 and 806730041)
** NOTE; there is a left and right seal, therefore they have different part numbers, dont screw this step up-arrows on seals will tell you if the seal is left or right** and also circlips (part #805329010)
---if you have a 02 wrx you have female axles. By buying the stubs/circlips and seals you can reuse your female wrx axles. parts/axles are really easy to swap into the sti transmission. (email me if you have any questions on this).

**NOTE*** YOU NEED TO USE THE STI CLUTCH FORK, NOT THE WRX CLUTCH FORK****

now im not sure if I had to use the 06 sti slave cylinder, but I did just because my transmission came with one.

LAST..... gear oil.

let me know if I missed anything or left anything out......

oh sh*t.....My transmission didnt come with a shift ****, so I ebay'ed that sh*t. $13 shift **** shipped to my house
