Also, Moreda5 look into a wingless or wrx spoiler. It seems to blend in with traffic more and attract less attention. I'm pretty sure I was pulled over soley for my big wing when I was cited (I wasn't drunk or speeding or anything). He tested my exhaust which was ok and then he popped my hood and saw my CAI..... BUSTED

nope never said that. but yes a stock car could be sent to ref (then you need a judge to excuse it for the officer not knowing).

if you go to the ref with your car in compliance (after receiving a ref ticket), if you get busted AGAIN for car not being compliant...you are f-ed....THATS what im saying. so they say its 30 day impound. Never had someone tell me they got busted twice.

had plenty of customers return to stock, pay the crazy fine...and go about there day.

had plenty of cusotmers do nothing and just pay the fine...and go about there day.

either way they all paid same fine, either route (question it, say its not so...I'm ok with it, as truly I dont care) <-- speaking from my experience from our customers stories (maybe they lied, who knows), take it for what it is *which is not my problem*

I got state reffed for my exhuast being too loud. I took it to the state ref and passed and all I had to do was take the paper from the state ref and ticket to the court house paid the $25.00 and everything was ok. I got pulled over a month later by the same police officer and showed him the state ref paper work and he let me go without the ticket. P.S. I had a HKS Carbon Ti with up pipe and down pipe on my 03 WRX and passed.

When I was reffed. I got the ticket in the mail stating i can pay 400 or so dollars to get it dismissed without proof of correction. I returned my car back to stock, went to the reff and paid 8.25 for the smog cert. I took my paperwork to the courthouse and saw the judge and paid a 10 dollar dismissal fee.
so total out of pocket was 18.25
I known people who have gone to the reff multiple times. As long as you have proof of compliance when you see the judge, all you should have to pay is the 10 dollar dismal fee.

That's good info and good to hear a real life scenario from someone who went through it personally.

seems like once you get busted they are on the hunt for you....maybe its just conspiracy theorists, LOL

Wow, sorry to hear you got popped Nick. Was this on a major highway, ie: 101, 280, 580, or just Sonomy Hwy? Don't stress too much about it man. Life isn't about how fast a car you have. A stock STi or Evo is already quicker than 90% of the vehicles on the road, we just get spoiled with the amount of relatively inexpensive power that can be had through modifications. You'll get her back to stock, have this taken care of, and be back on the road happy as a camper in no time. You have more important things (like an engagement) to stress over than a ref ticket.

Yes, this is what I was trying to explain.... I on the other hand just paid the fine. Too many mods to go back to stock.

I got ref'd, complete with "no officer sign off" sticker and all. I went to the ref, passed smog and went to the judge and said "here is proof I corrected the problem", he in turn dismissed the BS fine and I walked away paying for the smog and 'court fee'.

Then I moved out of state.

so I got my ticket today and it states
Total due with out correction is 794 or total due with correction is 496
looks like no 10 dismissal fee option unless that only happens in the court room.

Same thing I had, just bring it to court and play dumb. Worst case scenario you pay the same amount you would have if you didn't try.
