FYI, J-walking is a crime. If you break the law against J-walking, then don't complain about punished for it. I myself have gotten a J-walking ticket in the valley. Anyhow, one reason why Berkeley has such a high pedestrian fatality rate is because people J-walk like crazy, but the police seem to think that pedestrian-automobile incidents are only the fault of reckless drivers and that the law against J-walking is valueless. In L.A., they will police J-walking because it is a law, which is designed to place some responsibility on one of the parties that is usually not blamed whenever pedestrian-automobile accidents occur, to curb the amount of such incidences from occurring.

Back to the thread subject, does anyone know how to get the "Citizen Member" decal mentioned?

Wow... I crave a world where an adult is trusted to cross the street on their own just like a big kid. Sure it's illegal, but so is copying a CD and having something suction-cupped to your windshield. What a bunch of BS. It's just a damn shame there are people that believe in it.

In answer to the cost of the 11-99 foundation it's pretty rediculous. It also goes to drive the point home that, with enough money, the law doesn't really matter in most cases. That is even sadder than getting a ticket for walking across the street.

That's exactly how I feel about speed limits, but it seems like some people here think that speeding=guaranteed death.

All the more reason why richer is better, except in the case of the Enron mother****ers and those like them.

Yes, what a sad point of view. I also think it's pretty funny when people rant about speeding (ie, exceeding 65mph) when the CHP have estimated average traffic speeds (specifically 280 is one I heard mentioned) being closer to 75-85mph. Yet, they still ticket in this range... Hmm..

Yep. Lifetime membership. It was $1500 or so when I got in, but that was about 15 years ago as well. I think it's closer to $1800 for a lifetime membership these days. Not sure how you go about getting a membership these days - I was originally introduced to it at a function for ASLET and I sent in the application and my $1500 donation that same week. See if there's any info on www.chp1199.org. I only looked it over briefly.
