The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:

1. The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
2. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.

as for cops, cupertino has the dumbest sheriffs. they pulled over an all stock STI and did a full inspection in the middle of the day. took about 8 cops to decide if the car was modded....
yes someone talks about something in my area of town. i live in saratoga, but like right next to lynbrook hs. the sheriffs do have nothing to do so watch out friends. 1 tried to pull me over, but i was turning down my street so he decided not to go after me. he did the whole slow down and watch me then started speeding up then got in my lane and slowed down again. dumb ****.
