Did you consider a 38 special? Pretty easy round for your wife to shoot plus you can't go wrong with .357 when it comes to home defense. Revolver's are nice because they are pretty reliable when it comes to jamming etc.

I believe he came from teh BARF. Where's the popcorn emoticon when you need it. This place is turning into nastysock more and more everyday.
Seems like a lot of you are saying the .357 is a good reliable choice. Obviously easy to navigate halls with it to.
How are glocks? and how pricey and reliable are they?

There are also some laws you need to follow when it comes to shooting an intruder. You can't just start shooting away just cause someones in your house. Check them out when you can, last thing you want to happen is end up going to jail for killing a perp under the wrong "curcumstance" when you thought you were protecting your family.
Anyway, GL. And learn your rights and the law so you can cover your a$$, and do the right thing if something ever happens.

1. They have to be inside your residence.
2. You must have an IMMEDIATE and REASONABLE fear for your safety, or the safety of your family.
I see a lot of people talking about high-powered handguns - but what if the wall to the kids' room is right behind the perp? Shotgun with the right rounds will provide some major stopping power, especially at a close range. Close also counts with shotguns - nice spread vs. shooting in the dark where you need precision for a center-mass hit.

Just curious - how many of those can you hold and accurately aim and fire at one time? Seriously - if you ask any TRUE military operative who uses those, you can't simply go in Rambo-style and ripping off rounds - won't work very well for accuracy.

I personally don't get the obsession with AR's. The open gas system on M1's, even mini 14's and 30's is far more reliable and if you're building the thing already accuracy shouldn't be an issue as well. The mini 14 with a har-bar I'd put within a 1/2" of a decent AR any day of the week if we're talkin .223 and clean it 1/2 as much. All for around $500

Mini 14s have gone through the roof pricewise in the last 6-8 years. You'd be hard pressed to find even a used one in decent condition for $500. I've owned two and sold them both. The first, because of barrel overheating issues which affected accuracy and reliability, and the second - which I dumped a ton of cash into trying to make it more accurate and reliable - because it was for obvious reasons a money pit.
Having said that, I will now disengage before you start some sort of troll argument like you have on every other thread.

So your would say base for base the AR was a more reliable shooter for you?
