HELP! Hard drive recovery

Anyone know any software to recover a hard drive? Stuck it in one of the damn USB cases and plugged it in a computer and now it is saying the disk is corrupt.

I have important info on there that I can't afford to lose!

PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

Does any of the freeware on download.com work?

did you format the drive? if you didn't, just take it out and put it back the way you had it before.

btw, if you are free tomorrow and want some help I can swing by seeing as I do not have a job right now.

Didn't format it... just stuck it in the usb HDD container. Im afraid that the data got ****ed when i plugged it in, I will try sticking it back in the laptop though.

If that doesnt work, has anyone used this? http://grc.com/spinrite.htm

Really, it depends on what's wrong with the drive. If the issue is simple filesystem corruption, you can typically repair it or extract the data from the affected partition. If the problem is hardware level read errors, it would be wise to leave the drive unplugged. I personally have recovered most of the data off of a drive with hardware read errors using a linux utility named `dd` to copy from one disk directly to another.

Use it almost every day at work. If you can't find a free version online, PM me.

Thanks everyone.

Ended up getting it to work with just a freebie disc repair program.
I was just flipping because the data on it isn't even mine, as I was borrowing the laptop that this disk is out of.

Ah, good thing you found freebie software. I have software that takes care of that also. Wish I saw this post earlier.

In the future, its helpful to have a Bart P.E. disk laying around, they can be quite handy!
