Unhappy HELP! Ah Man it finally happened! My transmission!

Dont know much about the transmission but today after I exited off 880 into Calaveras in Milpitas, my transmission for some reason got stuck on 4th gear and I couldn't shift moving it to neutral or any other gear. It was like that for 30+ seconds at the light and I finally got it to first but everytime after that my 3rd + 4th gear was all funky. It was like that all the way home. I made a post a while back just saying how my 4th gear has been grinding a bit so figure its got something to do with that too.
Questions are:
-Where in Milpitas is a good place I can take my car to get it looked at?
-Can Gruppe-S look at it? Since its not too far. I'll be calling them in the morning but thought i'd ask anyways.
-Anyone know what type of things I should just look for on my own?
-Kinda scared to drive my car now, so could any of you pros come to my house in Milpitas to check it out?

Would have posted this in the Maintenance/Transmission sections but since I need to know where in the Bay to bring it I put it here.

if you are un-modded any dealer should be able to look at it, but not sure which dealer is the best for this sort of thing; probably won't want to go to steven's creek though. if your car modded, probably best to call up an independant like gruppe-s, mpj or lic.

on a side note, if your tranny is having a real difficult time going into gears it might be best to just have it towed if no one is able to come to your house to look at it.

if you are unmodded....or lightly modded. Take it to santa cruz subaru or to the dealership you bought it from.

It should still be under warranty. It's a warranty issue. Your syncro is toast. I had to have my 4th gear syncro fixed as well.

You really should have done something about it earlier if you've noticed a problem for some time.

Santa Cruz is where I was coming home from. Too bad it didn't happen while I was there. The dealership my car is from is Stevens Creek. I called Gruppe-S but no one was answering. Maybe ill call later.

I did just call Stevens Creek though. $106 for a diagnostics then since the car is under 60k miles if its the tranny or clutch they'll cover it.

Forgot to ask but when you guys say lightly modded, would that count for just bolt ons? No mods to tranny/clutch. Its mainly just a turbo back/rims/springs/intake. I think those are the only ones you could really see.

Sorry, everyone was in a meeting. Even if you towed it here, there's nothing we can do to fix it if the transmission is already broken. Unless you were planning to upgrade to some V6 STi RA gearsets, we could work something out.

If I waz U I'd be looking into scrounging up a stock exhaust and intake, as those are items that have been known to upset some dealership service advisors when it comes to warranty coverage, I know it's weak, and the burden should be on them to prove the mods are responsible, but if you're dealing with a place like SC you'd better have your butt covered

Springs and rims should not even be an issue though, even with them.

Dude....seriously...that is not enough mods to effect your warranty. I already talked to santa cruz about that since I am going to put on a borla hush cat back and I am **** about warantee since I bought the 100k gold plan.

Take it to santa cruz. If you want to talk to someone there. Send a PM to Old90. He's my service advisor. he's on these boards. he's cool and he'll be honest.

Paying to get a diagnostic is rediculous. If you bought your car at stevens creek and it's still under drive train warrantee you shouldn't have to pay jack.

If you do pay them..and it turns out it's there fault....do they give you back the $106 bucks?

I think that's crap. Stevens creek is far from honest. They'll find some reason to make it your fault.

I took my tranny into santa cruz when it started grinding on a regular basis. They openned it up free. Said it was a bad syncro and fixed it no questions asked. If there was obvious damage from hard shifting or too much power..etc...they would have charged me. But they didn't cause there was none. My car is stock performance wise.

seriously. PM Old90 or give them a call. Talk to bruce or ben. No harm in asking.

If its looking like it's gonna be on your dime. Take it to one of our favorite BAIC shops and upgrade.

I just called Santa Cruz and Bruce told me he cant do that. He said himself cause I got a turboback that he can't really do anything about the warranty. And he said it would probably be around $1600-$1700 in work and if thats the case he said it might just be better to get a new tranny instead of fixing it.
I called Stevens Creek just before them and just asked the question about my appointment and that I have a turboback exhaust and he said "yeah if its your transmission or clutch then it shouldn't be a problem".

wow. that's retarded.

I mean damn....you'd like to think that the trannys can handle an extra 35hp. stupid. It is obviously the problem that tons of other people have had on stock and not stock wrx's. 4th gear syncro. They should just be honest and admit it's a manufacturer problem.

I am way anti being dishonest about it but I'd say you stick stock exhaust on there and take it somewhere else. Carlson, livermore. I still say you should talk to ben.

Stuff like this pisses me off. It's the same damn problem so many of us have had. An exhaust isn't gonna make that much difference...least it shouldn't. I've seen 3 times stock power put down on bone stock honda trannys. so sad that we spend so much on a car that is marketed as a performance car. Comes with an SCCA membership. Advertisements show cars on the track or blasting down dirt roads. But then they won't support stuff like this.

I mean if you had ecu/tuning, bigger turbo, new injectors, stuff like that I'd say then maybe question it but with just exhaust..thats sad.

Well i'm taking my car to Stevens Creek the way it is tomorrow. If somehow they dont accept it although they said they would, could I then put on my stock exhaust and then go to a different place? Or do they keep a record of that I tried that?

always go stock before going to the dealership.

Go stock, go to Carlsen in Redwood City, askfor Kevin tolook at it. This is your best bet.

You know the cold clutch judder on the 02's with the service bulliten and all? seems to me that they acmitted that all '99-'02 2.5 liter engines and '02 wrx's had the problem. i took my stock 02 2.5 rs in to stevens creek to see if they would fix it. i got told that its a characteristic of the car and that its not their problem, and they would replace it with the right parts for $1400. i said screw you and walked out.

moral of the story.. if you can get them to cover it you are lucky. if not, start talking to some of the local shops about a tranny upgrade. if it was $1400 for a new clutch on my car i cant even imagine how much the dealer would charge for yours.

Your problem was that you went to Stevens Creek. You should of lit the place on fire while you were there.

If you are taking your car for to the dealer for anything powertrain related you MUST have all the stock parts on the car relating to powertrain or they WILL 100% deny you.

Trust me I am looking through my window into the shop and see 2 WRX's with broken tranny's both of which were taken to different dealers and both denied warranty claims (one was 100% stock when it went in they still denied it)
