My engine is dirty as hell...a lot of black grim and what not, and i was wondering what i can use to clean it off? I'm trying to do as much as possible as I can to make this crappy hand me down car run better. I was going to fix the broken antenna for the radio but I found out the wire that I need to take out is broken inside somewhere so like unless I take out the whole dash or whatever I can't do it, boo. Gonna do an oil change, ran some fuel injector cleaner in there, and gonna put some sea foam when I do that. Anything else I need to do? Air filter was changed recently, maybe spark plugs? Looks hard though, lol.
For $100 you can get one of the Scunci steam cleaners. Those things work great for cleaning under your hood, inside you wheels, road grim on the lower parts of your car etc... I use mine on everything. They are probably cheaper now too. I use that and a little bit of Mean Green and it will get off anything.

recently used a can of this; half in crank case and half in gas tank. Noticed more miles per tank right away.

Never had the thick white cloud of smoke come out at initial start-up but after 200+ miles, I've begun to notice the thicker than normal white smoke come out at idle. Embarrassing at stop lights. Is this normal or is there something else wrong with the car?

Oil pressure and EGT is normal and the car is tuned. A/F is fine.

Thanks.

This stuff works great. In addition to the crankcase and gas tank, I would recommend sucking a bottle through one of your vacuum lines with the car running. It does a great job of cleaning the top end of your engine and intake path, including the valves. It will create a huge smokescreen, but it will die off once the stuff burns through. Only suck a bit at a time or you'll kill the engine. It helps to have someone hold the gas pedal at a steady rpm, although I did it myself without too much trouble.

You can buy it at any NAPA auto parts store and it's good for any vehicle.

I put it in both of my cars to clean the intake system. Ran it through the brake booster vacuum line while the engine was running. It helped a lot in my 240sx. Even though the engine was clean on the smog side. It cleaned out the intake a lot. The exhaust was smoking like the space shuttle taking off for about 10+ mins. It's good stuff. Bought it at Winchester Auto parts...

It hasn't been stressed much, but beware, you car will SMOKE. I don't mean cough cough pass me another bowl, I mean HOLY CRAP WTF IS WRONG WITH MY CAR. The first time I used it on my supercharged V6 accord I crapped myself. If you care about your neighbors I'd find a desolate parking lot to do it in. I sucked it in through the PCV and shut it off to sit for a few minutes. Cranked it up and it smoked so bad it was scary. When it was over, I did my oil change and the car was so happy afterward. No ECU reset, nothing other than a 2800mile oil change, and seafoam and the car was idling much better. It had a much smoother throttle response, and the engine was a lotmore quiet. I'm sure some of it was psychosomatic, but I had a friend ask if I had a tune up without knowing that I had done anything to my car, so it obviously had done something.

BTW, this is the exact same stuff your local dealer tries to sell you during service visits as "Top End Cleaner".

I bought some of that before finding Seafoam and I don't think it's as potent as Seafoam. I have since used Seafoam in my WRX, L, RS and Celica to great results. My WRX had this hesitation problem, and I ran 1/3 of the can thru the intake, smoked out the neighborhood and the car was fine ever since. It's great stuff.

is it normal to experience white cloud of smoke from the exhaust after logging in over 200 miles?

Never experienced the smoke screen effect after dumping the pint.

I've used this stuff with good results. Although I never experienced any smoke after 200 miles... has anyone else besides Rocket Man? How did you use it?

Thanks

When I did my WRX it had about 25,000 miles on it and it smoked for a good 15-20 minutes at idle, and then just a whisper of smoke for the first few miles of driving. I also did my Sporttrac at about 40,000 miles and it smoked heavily for the same 15-20 minutes at idle. With it, I did get smoke for a day or two of normal driving, but no where near 200 miles.

I have yet to do the STi (only 13k now), but I do need to do the Spottrac again soon so I'll pay better attention this time and report back.

+1 for seafoam

i used to have a 00 civic si with stock b16a2 motor squeezing about a 65-70 shot wet. at a track day, either my plugs weren't cold enough or the timing was too advanced so i ended up fouling the plugs pretty badly after 3 full runs. needless to say, my compression numbers went to **** varying by as much as 35 psi! i used the seafoam through the vacuum line to the intake mani and in the gas tank. i did another compression test a few days later and the numbers were all evened out. this stuff really works great in combination with a full synth oil change.

just a heads-up for peeps that are searching for a "miracle in a bottle", BE CAREFUL with this stuff! Yes, your car will smoke out every insect in your garage! Your 420 friends will be proud. After letting it idle for 10 mins (3 times), my black car is now gray.

I've logged in over 200 miles and it still smokes at stop lights.

May be time to call Subaru....

It is scary and you will get NASA, ninja, rocket jokes... just, be careful. Play safe. If you have any questions, ask someone experienced. It's not just a bottle.

how much did you put in, and what did you put it though? If you put way too much through your intake that will start to cause problems...
