It seems that everyone is drifting with a wheel. I don't really have the extra cash to buy one. Is drifting on a controller possible? Any tips would be appreciated.

i'm not sure if GT5 still has leader boards, but on GT5P you can see the top 100 for each track with that car. then you can see who is using a controller and who isn't. i would say within the top 100, there's like 5% on a controller and the rest on 900˚ wheel. not saying it's impossible to drift with a controller, but i imagine it's easier to hold the drift with a wheel.

I can drift with a controller

add me and message me whenever you wanna do a private lobby. Please have a mic so we can discuss.

The main thing to remember about drifting in this game is weight transitioning and not always mashing the x button for gas.

A lot of the cars I drift with are stock. Either comfort tires or performance tire, never the racing tires.

Nice. Do you use the same tires all around?

yes same tires all the way around.

Back in teh day with GT4, we would hook up via xlink kai and drift together in the arcade mode races, it was always super slow mo and laggy but we managed some good times.

All the cars are stock, here's an old vid

don't mind the japanese pop music, this was before it got way out of control

You'll notice in the vid it's a lot of weight shifting. Comfort tires actually have the best grip for drifting in gt4. But now its a mixed bag depending on the cars weight and power.

If you guys wanna try hit me up, always looking for some drifting in this game since tires are free

Seems like even more important is to not use the "X" button for gas at all. Too hard to control. Switch the gas/brake to the triggers and you have so much better control and the ability to easily hold part-throttle through a bend for example. Use the thumb stick for steering and regardless what anyone says, you can do just fine with a controller.
