got my car reffed today, failed because turbo timer and boost gauge is illegal

Correct. As the coolant passes through the blazing hot turbo it boils and turns to vapor. The vapor returns to the highest point in the system (the reservoir near the turbo) then it condenses and and flows through the system again pulled along by the coolant "ahead" of it boiling off.

yes no need fro a FATT in a water cooled suby turbo.
You dont fail if you have a boost gauge option from factory. replacing it with aftermarket is fine as long as you use the same connection path as OEM.
I know a lot of smog techs back from my Wyotech days.
thats just BS. F CARB total waste of money
