the damage sounds pretty bad. you still get a point even if no other cars were involved when reporting the accident to DMV. depending on the estimate and your deductible cost, I would definitely consider trying to repair the car yourself if you have not reported the accident. If you did file a report, I would lean more toward using your insurance. Hope everything turns out ok.
