good way to learn cad?

Take a class.. if u want to learn the basics. Those books are no use coz.. u are not actually doing or using the program. I use it everyday at work and I am still learning new things everyday.. The more u use it the better u get at it..

Do you guys know how far this sort of job can take you? Right now i work as a modeler in maya, and i know it really really well - but im not sure if i want to stay in the games industry forever, and i'd much rather be living near my home up around sacramento.

I can visualize just about anything, and i usually create my models without reference. I'm just not sure if a job in drafting would pay + interest me enough to switch careers.
Do any of you guys do that for a living?
