I remember your post about sharps having the banding issues and i youtubed it and saw what it was and that is very bad for a brand like sharp to even produce. It's sad that a reputable brand would allow that to leave their factories.

I don't want them to get 720p out of principle but then again they won't ever get HD or a bluray player. They just want a bigger, less power using, thinner tv mainly.
I'm sure they will be getting HD at some point. Hell, even OTA HD (best quality HD) is free, and all they need an antenna. Well worth it.

I'd get the refurbished one off Tiger and then call up Vizio and buy a direct extended warranty for:
VIZIO Peace of Mind Extended Service Plans

Model Number : VO37LF
Purchase Price : $599.99

SKU Number Coverage Term Contract Description Contract Price
V116202 1 years LCD - Plus 1 Yr Plan

V216202 2 years LCD - Plus 2 Yrs Plan
$ 99.99
V316202 3 years LCD - Plus 3 Yrs Plan
$ 149.99
V416202 4 years LCD - Plus 4 Yrs Plan
$ 199.99

OK TV Geeks.. how about a model in the same size range that has either an SD or USB port that will read flash memory full of JPGs for an easy slide show?

Panasonic plasmas have this feature since SD cards are their deal. Nearly all their plasmas have an SD card slot.

Not many TVs have USB inputs, while many have Ethernet for network access of jpegs.

Gagan, I found a 42" Vizio 1080p for $799 at Walmart, I think I am gonna try to talk them into that one.

seems like a pretty damn good deal. If you are willing to spend $600 why not $200 more for a much better setup. I hate when people buy into the past.. buy for the future so you're not obsolete the moment you leave the store lol.

They will be happy with it. I have the version before this one in my bedroom on the wall, and it's been great. I paid $950 for 1 year ago from costco after coupon.

Just make sure it's not after rebate, as TD is infamous for never fulfilling them, or taking ages. Not worth the headache.

Cool thanks.. I'll look at Panasonics. But the ethernet might work too depending on how it works.

My friend just bought

Samsung 46" LCD 1080p 120hz 50,000:1 contrast with 5 year warranty from Fry's for $17XX

The original $1399 seemed like a good price lol
