That fact is you saying they are entering with no ill intent...............thats the most subjective stupid thing I've heard, so I can already see where this is leading. And who are you to decide what ill intent is???? e.g. it could be argued those kids had good intentions as well.....................and id believe that sooner than I would the jehovahs...........and have you met all the jehovahs witnesses so you know there is no ill intent?

Having a group of people WALK up to your DOOR to TALK to you about an issue (even if you don't agree with it) is NOT the same as RUNNING into your YARD and VANDALIZING your PROPERTY.

'Ill intent' does not translate into 'good/bad intentions'.

There is no law against having non-popular beliefs, however there ARE laws against vandalization, trespassing and damage to property.

I can sorta see where you are trying to lead this, but in the end no matter what, no matter who, no matter where - someone coming up to your door to talk to you vs. someone driving up to your house to damage your property is NOT the same and CANNOT be treated the same.

By the sound of it, I should dress up as a Witness and come to your house...sounds like one could sue you out of an easy million.

BOOBY traps, etc are a weird part of the calif criminal codes.

the reasoning is that BOOBY traps are meant to harm or kill INDESCRIMINANTLY. whereas, guard dogs are.

 

Wait a minute.. I call bull***t. Two guys pull up in a vehicle yelling at you.. One exits vehicle, and runs towards you. You are on your property.

In Most states lethal force would be authorized. Probably even in California.

They easily met Ability to do harm. They had disparity of force 2-1.
Intent was Hostile (or at least seemed so)--Whether they say they just wanted to mess up the sign... What if they wanted to mess up the guy until they saw he had a gun?
Opportunity was there to do harm.... until the old guy produced a gun and shot at the Perps (oh right they are call misunderstood youth here)

Either way I'm not seeing where the guy was wrong...

Now if they man had walked out and saw two youths messing with his sign and shot them.. Maybe....

I do think it will be awhile before these two mess with the populous again.

 

Ok lets be real here. Stop using terms like "vandalizing property" trying to attribute some large amount of destruction or monetary loss. Lets call it what it was, taking a sign the man got for free and could easily attain another for the same fee; free. Don't pretend like he did something else is my point. And yes thats different than people coming to my door, but the point was that would be ridiculous to blow them away, as would it be someone stealing a free political sign that you put up to achieve a reaction from people either positive or negative. That shooting someone for something like that is a joke unless you are insane. And I guess I probably realize while a lot of people said that they are probably full of **** so it doesn't really matter anyways.

The the jehovas witness's coming to the door, i'm not saying they are going to kidnap me or brainwash me, but the fact is (and most of the ones ive met will agree) they are coming to your door because they don't believe in the way YOU are living or YOUR lifestyle, and feel it is their duty to try and make people live the "righteous path of life", I don't think most of them will deny any of that.

 

I agree with slow04wrx. It's a little rediculous that a grown man would shoot some teenagers for something so stupid. I do agree that if someone is on your property with the intent to harm you or your family then beat them down, but a freakin sign? c'mon, thats a little much. He could have just gotten their plate number and called the cops or fired a warning shot, but even that is going a little far.

And i agree about jehovahs witness'... they knock on my door every weekend and even when I tell them that I have religion and whatnot they still try. One lady told me I was damned and going to hell becuase I didn't want to hear what she had to say.
