The cop was an idiot. I made the call to the police at about 10:30pm. They showed up well after 1am. Then asked where the other driver was. I said gone... like I said when I called 3 hours ago. "oh we just got the call" bull****.
Guy not only took off he stole my f'in lisense plate...haaa.
Was not sober at all at the time of the accident. The passenger jumped out and yelled at the driver... "I told you not to drive ****ed up" But I guess you can sober up in 3-4 hours.
Then the officer wrote down that I was going freeway speeds and put 40mph in the same two lines... WTF... I said... I just got off the freeway.
I had just exited 880 at mowry. Went over the overpass toward the mall and bam at that next light.. albrae.
Bull****. My parents told me to leave it and let insurance deal with it. I ended up riding my bike and the bus for 6-8 months while I saved up for a new car.
GRRRRRRRRR.
so my advice. Say AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. Be very direct. The more you say the more likely you'll either say something that damages your case or gets taken in a way that damages your case.
I learned a big lesson that day.
Oh... and I learned that things move very slowly during accidents. Like nascar highlights.

I didn't read this entire thread but I will tell you there is a chance you'll be screwed.
my story...
Guy runs red light. I t-bone him. We stop. He takes my insurance info. I turn around to grab something out of the car while he writes his. I turn around as they're driving away.
3 hours later cops show up.
They go find him by chance because he had to call a tow truck.
Write him a ticket for fleeing the scene of an accident.
Come back. Tell me that even though he ran the red light it's my fault because I entered an intersection while another car was in it. So it went 51% my fault. I lost my truck. They stuck it to my insurance company with $1000 in rental fees and damage that was there before the accident. Scratched rim... clearly curbed. Dented panel that I didn't hit... had the wrong color paint on it.
And I'm leaving out the good stuff. Lets just say johnny law didn't use any lube and was definitely sleeping.

Ug, stories like these make me sick to my stomach... What a nightmare and just reassures how much I hate people like that.
