Is FMIC illegal?
Is FMIC illegal?
iam just wondering, i hear stories about popo asking to "pop your hood". and if the car has fmic, its the damn most standing out mod to the engine bay with huge pipes going on either side. iam sure it can be explained since evo and majority of other cars do have fmic but will the cop buy it?
anyone been in bs because of fmic?

if I remember correctly from the other threads, a FMIC is not illegal as long as you keep the factory BOV in the same location and all of the EGR connections in place.
I may be wrong, but IIRC that was what someone found out from the state ref.

i paint my fmic pipe stealth black and only have hks bov....cop pulled me over and just give me the ticket for bov only....so i quess they dont care cuz i made all the pipe black so looks like it came from the factory......
yeah thats why i plan on getting perrin fmic with black piping and intercooler or paint it myself...and hopefully dont attract attention.

I believe if it did not come with an FMIC from the factory like the evo's then you can not legally put one on WITHOUT a carb sticker.

Was this for a SPECIFIC FMIC or all FMIC.
I've heard both things. That the intercooler isn't part of the smog blah blah so it's free game. And then I've heard and known people that have lost ref and court battles on it.
That's why if you go look at most manufacturers websites they'll say NOT 50 state legal or yes it's 50 state legal. So from what I can see... CARB sticker equals legal. No CARB sticker equals illegal.
Far as I know it's officers discresion. If they see it and don't know they'll ref you. If you go to the ref you need documented proof it is legal... a carb sticker and it has to be CURRENT.
