Fine for no Cats...

Being a car enthusiast and fixing up cars since 1995, its all about having a complete car, and if that means going catless then thats what you gotta do, I just got caught. I'm not sure if you have felt what a car feels like catless...maybe you should try it sometime...makes a huge difference in power.
Hercules, its a small city in the east bay...damn this is seriously stressin me out....
damn... thats where my freinds civic got pulled for a motor swap...wow hercules is hella strict. was the cop on a bike...sad to here that its a bad place to get pulled over at.

I'd guess that if California adopted your thinking, we'd have more pollution.
My car, w/out cats, runs cleaner than a junky old car with cats!
Feels like a cat/no cat debate in the works. j/k. I'm slapping on my highflow this weekend. I'll lose some power, but not much. I figure it's better for the environment and gives mr. policeman less of a reason to go snoopin around. There definitely is a difference w/ no cats, but for the relatively small bump in power you sometimes have to ask yourself if its worth all the stuff blowing out the backend. eh, i figure in the not too distant future i'll compensate the highflow cat with a vf34.

I would prefer that we don't have junky cars with bad cats on the road, and if a measure came before the people restricting that even further, then I vote in favor of it. Until then, however, that doesn't absolve you of YOUR responsibilty to do YOUR part, does it?
Again, I ask, why CANT you run a highflow cat? According to RandomTech (who make a number of highflow cats, they dont' reduce power at all, and in some limited cases (albeit cases that don't apply to a small turbo engine) they saw an increase in power.
It comes down to selfishness. You don't care about the wellbeing of others and the rest of the world around you, so you choose to run illegally and contaminate the environment rather than take a 5HP reduction. How about this? Why not lose 10lbs and take the 5HP cut.....just as much accelaration, and better for you as well!
As for highflows not working very well? Just plain false. Since all catalytic converters must meet standards established by the Environmental Protection Agency, (EPA) their efficiency in controlling pollutants is a given - provided a particular converter is installed on the type of vehicle for which it was designed.
As for legality in CA. They are legal. However, it is ILLEGAL to replace a functional cat with another one. So, unless yours is broken, it is technically illegal to replace it even witha highflow version. But my argument here isn't about legality, its about morality.
Running catless means you don't care about the wellbeing of others and the rest of the world around you, so you choose to run illegally and contaminate the environment rather than take a 5HP reduction.
Woh.. I live right next door to Hercules. My firend who live in Hercules told me she got a notice this past weekend from the police saying that they will be on "Power trip" mode .. guess they are really serious about it. Dame might just say away from Hercules untill things dies down.

Well, I did go the legal route and still got sent to the Ref. If I am going to get sent anyway, I better do something illegal anyway so I don't get pulled for no reason. It would suck for the police person (being PC) pulling me over. I support their cause.

Really, just run a cat or two...it won't kill your horsepower.

actually we have dyno proven that with a cat( a high flow cat at that) will knock off 25 to 20 whp...
