F the police :/ -- Rant

I went to the Walnut Creek Skateboard park for the first time last night, its been open for quite a few months and I had been wanting to go for a long time. Only thing that I was sketchy on, was that the bored-*** walnut creek pd would harass us for not wearing a helmet. All my buddies are like "No dude, its cool nobody wears a helmet and the cops never come by." I decided to go since it was nice out, no rain and I hadnt been skating in ages.

I meet my friends, and the park is pretty cool. Its kinda crowded (20-25) skaters, and NOBODY is wearing a helmet. We all shred for about 35 minutes until we hear someone yell out the dreaded "5-0!!" (aka, cops are here). So everyone sits down and the cop strolls in on his high horse. He procceeds to mock us, saying stuff like "Why isnt anyone skating? Cmon guys whos going to take home a nice award?" (read:ticket), blah, blah, blah, being a complete asshat.

He zeros in on my buddy who recently broke his hand, he was wearing a cast. He then starts talking **** to him on how hes so smart to skate with a cast and without a helmet. Sure enough, my buddy gets cited for a $150 ticket. The entire time he is writing the ticket, he keeps up the **** talking in his condesending pig voice, smiling all the while, having a ball. He loved it. The bad part is, my friend is a server, and since he cant work with a broken hand, he is temporarily on disability. Talk about a bad luck streak

....OH YEAH, the motherf*cking pig said he used to skate!! What a tool. I hate d!ck cops with nothing better to do.

Did the cop actually SEE your friend skaing w/ out helmet? If not he has no right to issue a ticket like that, thats some bs. Oh yea btw one time I got a $75 dollar ticket for skateboarding along a SIDEWALK in downtown San Jose, I thought staying out of the street and avoiding getting hit by a car was a good idea don't you?

I called him on it, I was like "you used to skate? yeah right, I dont believe you" No true skater would act or do something like that, what a scumbag.

Ive had REAL skater cops tell me "Look, I used to skate, but I gotta do my job. So Im telling you, you cant skate here "wink, wink". Good, now I did my job, I will come back in 30 min and you guys should be gone.

Yeah, he saw him. He made some smart *** comment on how he wasnt too bright being the last one to sit down and easy to spot with a cast.

Its like you cant do anything without getting a ticket. But idiot bicylists can ride in the middle of the street with cars. That is way more dangerous than skating on the freaking SIDEWALK!

He should have his name on the ticket. I'm sure some of the people there were regulars and that'd be atleast 5-10 witnesses to go along with your complaint.

technically it's legal for a bike to be in the street as the street is supposed to be shared by both bicyclists and motor vehicles.

I just have one question, why weren't you wearing a helmet?

You gotta be stupid to not wear a helmet. I can understand not wearing it if you are just riding down a street or whatever, but while at the skate park, come on.

What is the law regarding that anyways? Is it a city law for the use of the skate park you must wear a hemet? or is it like bikes, everyone under 18 must wear one?

That's pretty weak. Helmet? Nah dude. You don't need one. It's one thing if you're going on a 1/2 pipe and doing some crazy ****, but otherwise it's not necessary. Chicks dig scars.

Cause I dont want to wear a helmet, Im an adult, I have my own health insurance, not to mention that Ive been skating for over 15 years. If I hit my head and die, boo hoo for me. The strong live the weak dont.

And whats the difference between a park and street? Accidents can happen anywhere.

Its the city park law, but f*** the law, its stupid. The parents should be parenting and making their sub 18yr olds wear helmets(just like my dad did when I was learning). The city should not be profiting and parenting

dude, you are on city property.

you break your head and someone sues.

city cant win either way.

then you counter with "but i'm man adult, i can break my head if i want to..."

sure. but do that on your own home. the city has to pay for insurance just for them to open that skate park.

try operating your own business. see how much insurance you have to cough up.

in the end, it all comes down to $$$$. and unfortunately, so did your friend.

tell your buddy to go to court. with his cast on.

get a dr. note saying he isn't suppose to skate and what date he got the cast on. Then go to court with witnesses saying that when the cop got there no one was skating. And beyond that your buddy was there watching since he CAN'T skate....dr. orders.

if the officer didn't see anyone specifically skating he can't say that he did in court...ticket tossed.

basically these cops see these big skate parks as dollar signs. Instant tickets since probably 10% of the people where helmets.
