Question Engine rebuild/swap location?

Hey, guys, my friend has a 98 outback wagon with about 125k mi on the clock. The car developed some issues last week, and on inspection, their mechanic is telling him that cyl 1 has 0 compression and that they can hear blowby when they listen with a stethescope (sp?).

They're going to run more tests, but it sounds like he may need a new engine. That's where you guys come in

Where is a good place to get an engine rebuild or new engine installed? Could he even swap in an ej20 cheaply, or would that be a nightmare (I'm guessing it's a nightmare).

Lemme know!

Thanks.

Yea I speed can do a swap for you easy, should run around 7K. It's complete and they use all the OEM wiring stuff. If you want the same motor but new they can do that too.

They can source all the parts you need.

closed on Monday

I doubt my friend will want to swap in a WRX motor - he's a no nonsense guy (I mean, he does own an outback wagon) and will most likely just go with a rebuild or new 2.5 engine unless the cost of both are VERY close.

But like I said, he just had AAA run some diags for him and that's what they found. He still needs to take it to his mech. when he gets back next week. I'll call *the* shop tomorrow.
