Well, I'm too late then, but let me know how you like that lens. I have the 40D + 28-135 kit and a few other lenses. It's a nice general purpose lens, my only complaint is that I often wish for something wider, so from that standpoint the 18-55 would be nice. But to my surprise I'm finding that often IS wins over a my faster prime lenses for low light work, and the IS in the 18-55 is probably better than in the (very old) 28-135. Although for low light action shots IS won't help. You might want to consider picking up one of the fast 50mm primes for that, they are fairly cheap, good for low light work, and stopped down they are amazingly sharp lenses.
