Downtown Subaru rant
Downtown Subaru rant
Ok, i figured I would take the chance to warn you guys (again) about downtown subaru in oakland.
1. First, im a little worried about the oil consumption in my car so I had them start an oil consumption test. I use synthetic oil so i provided them with the oil to fill it. When i pick it up i noticed that they used an extra quart of oil! and the dipstick showed that it was totally overfilled. of course its not going to look like im burning oil if you start off with an extra quart. bastards.
2. I decided to change the tranny oil last weekend and i couldnt get the tranny drain plug out, but i did get the front diff plug out. so i called the dealer to see if i really needed to get them both off. heres the conversation
"hey, do i really need to get that bolt off?"
"your draining the front diff not the tranny!"
"i realize that, but they are a connected system so i thought i would ask. and where do you fill the front diff fluid then?"
"well you fill the front diff from a dipstick under the hood"
"ok and where do you fill teh tranny from?"
"the same dipstick"
"so they are connected then!"
"oh yeah, i never thought about that before. let me check"
10 minutes later they hang up on me (i got the tranny bolt out later anyways)
3. i called back to double check the tranny oil capacity. the "mechanic" tells me it takes 3 quarts. i say no way its somewhere between 4 and 5. he then tells me that this is what he does for a living and he is sure its 3 quarts. i hang up and start filling. it takes 4.3 quarts.
needless to say im not going back there and i highly recommend no one else go there either. i wish i could go to work and not give a **** about what i do and not even care to do a good job. maybe i should become a subaru mechanic.

i went there for service once since they are open late (till midnight). they reparked my car across the street and scraped the front bumper going up the driveway. i was across the street and i heard it. the service manager was a total jerk and the guy who drove my car across the street tried to walk away from me when i was confronting him.
they 'fixed' it, but they replaced my driver's side fog light casing w/ another one that had a bunch of scratches (i know it wasn't mine because mine had one big chip, not many little scratches) and the bumper repaint feels super-rough and it's starting to peel off. this was last december (2005).

I bought a stock clutch assembly from them and they gave me the wrong clutch!
I even gave them the VIN # !!!!
Theres another poor review thread here about them but in general I avoid all dealerships at all cost.

You would think that someone who works in the subaru parts dept would know more than some guy who's only car knowledge comes from internet forums!
Guess I thought wrong

Haha, the only thing I've bought there was a few crush washers since I had just stopped by for a test drive on a Forester XT. The salesman I was talking to was cool enough to pay for the parking meter when we went on the test drive though.
