downtown subaru SUCKS
My rear struts went out so I took my car to Downtown Subaru in Oakland. They took 8 hours to tell me that the clicking noise from the rear was being caused by my modified exhaust banging against my driveshaft. They made me pay $62 for the "inspection fee" and wrote on my invoice that I refused to purchase an exhaust (~$1,500). What's more, they told me that they wouldn't honor my warranty anyways because my car was modified. *******S!!
I took my car to Livermore Subaru. They diagnosed my dead rear struts immediately, replaced them, and had my car fixed and back to me in less than four hours.

sounds like a typical SOA dealership. Really a shame that they don't care about their customers. I know the warranty rate is less than walk in rate, but they need to honor their end of the bargain.
Next time tell them to shove it. I did with Ron Price. Every person I come across that may even remotely do business with them I tell about their shady business. I have had a good experience long long ago with Carlsen's service dept. They fixed under warranty what Ron Price wouldnt, and also gave me a rental car. Best part of it is the District Service Rep was the one who authorized the repairs to be done at Carlsen, and he actually made Ron Price pay for the repairs. Story is bought car with OEM body kit, delivered car without kit, return car to RP for install, installed wrong and front lip keeps popping off. RP says its cause the car scraped a driveway. I go to Carlsen they take pics, send them to the service rep, who actually bills RP for the repairs at Carlsen since they sold me the parts, installed wrong, and refused to service it. Sweet victory, and a slap on the face of Ron Price.

Yeah, sounds like what happened to me at Livermore. Somehow they found out my brake pads were low w/o even taking off my wheels. Too bad that wasn't what was causing the squeaking as the dust shields were scraping the rotors.
-1 to SoA dealerships
+1 to having lots of Bay Area shops local to here that know what they're doing

I’m sorry to hear about your experience at downtown auto. My experience there has only been good. If anyone has to go there talk to Chris in service and he’s a good guy and he will take care of you and he won't BS you. It just sucks that you got stuck with an asshat.

do the rear struts clunk or click? Sorry to tak this a lil off topic but one of my struts is doing the clunking whenever I go over small bumps. I can hear it constantly at low speeds. Last time I had les schwab take apart the strut and reassemble it as they installed mty springs. It went away for like 8k butnow it is back. Do I have a diferent problems or is this the typical rear strut issue?

Downtown subaru sucks! I have posted about how lame they are before and I've been taking my car there for years (I work down the street). But now I only go there for basic service. Avoid at all costs.
