All new motors should be properly broken in. Most engine builders will have a particular set of fluids they recommend at different points with change intervals.

I don't think he's saying a tuner is going to take your car with say 45k miles on it... put a break in tune and then a full tune....

new motor... break in.

Some tuners will offer you a break in tune that keeps the boost out of the upper end so you're not tempted to go nuts on it and waste your money and their time.

I know if I was doing a new motor I would want a break in tune... get it broke in and then push it on the dyno. I don't think I'd want someone doing a full 3rd gear pull pushing max boost on my zero miles motor.

 

No I don't know him but I just thought it was funny that you actually know someone who managed to destroy two motors himself.

 

To be fair one was the stock motor and not really his fault. It just let go.

 

He recently upgraded to a better Subaru and since has had nothing but trouble free motoring. I guess Subaru products are improving ;
