Craigslist Imprezas...
The car you posted on the 25th was a shop car. But it's been used on the track alot and won't pass smog with all the aftermarket parts it has. Plus it's a bit inconvenient to have a roll cage in a street car, ie, it doesn't add value. I've seen that car at Thunderhill, it's quick as hell and worth buying as a track car, maybe, if the condition is good.
The GC from today is tastefully done. I wouldn't think twice about looking at it if I was in the market for one, but I also know how to inspect a car. It's smoggable and good for a dd.
A swapped GC doesn't come up on the market every day like a STI does. So the rarity increases the value of it quite a bit. Basically you're only paying for parts for todays listing, and get all of the install for free. $15k is a good price for that car.

He is correct.
Most ~8-10k swaps are for the engine and engine harness merge...Maybe a wrx transmission, but most likely not. Most people who swap in WRX motors, half *** it and stick with the RS transmission until it explodes. Hell, some people swap in STi motors and use the stock RS transmission
If you want what that CL ad is offering then his price is fair. Complete swaps, basically swapping everything from donor car to the RS is ~15-18k depending on what year was used. You get: drivetrain, engine, complete harness front to back (merged for coupe power doors), gas tank, dash (not this one though), carpet, suspension etc.
Plus 131k miles is probably the chassis miles, not engine/drivetrain mileage...could be less, could be more.

I have a RS swap with a 06 STI engine and stock tranny, buuutttt its done that way for budgeting. I'm saving up for a full 06 transmission swap.

Swapped RS's range from 10k (WRX engine and RS/WRX tranny, minor mod's all around) to 20k+ (STI everthing and nice mod's all around). Also people lower the price if they havent got it BAR'd (which is now known to be fairly easy).
As far as the RS tranny thing goes, its actually as strong as a WRX tranny (thats not saying much) plus is has a shorter gear ratio which is better for a turbo engine. So... if kept the power is kept low and it's not launched hard it'll be fine. If you bump the power up and track it = dumb.

I love when people generalize the strengths of the WRX tranny...or say an engine can handle XX pounds of boost. Such relative statements
All that matters on car pricing is whether YOU want to pay that much for a car. If not, offer less, or move on!!

Generalizations are made cause well they are generally true. Of course some may last longer or do better with more power but there is a limit with these transmissions. Same goes with engine's, theres never a set number but I think I can say 'relatively' a stock ej20t wouldnt last long with 29lbs of boost. Just dont listen to people giving exact numbers "Your limit should be 19 then you need to build up your engine."

While this doesnt say that any of them are beefier than the other, the transmissions are different though.

They don't have hardended gears. In the late 90s with type r and type ra models there are ra gearsets which are actually thicker. Same gears used in 04+ LGT and I believe 08+ WRX.
