I've been in and out a TON today so thanks for still responding even though I haven't been posting back

As for the type of bulb, it is a Silvania Silverstar so it's definitely not a cheapo. But, as Zoeb suggested.....when I was putting the bulb in I had some trouble getting it to 'click' into fitting in place, and I accidentally touched it a few times. So I supposed this could be the reason. It's just a pain to pay 26 bucks or whatnot to replace a silverstar :/ but my fault for not taking the time to install it carefully. Hopefully this is all the problem is, I've just been a little worried as the lights seem to be dimming more than usual, and the car's idle seems to be differing more than usual (fluctuating between 5 and 4 hundred RPM's at idle when it's usually right at 5.
Thanks all for the ideas, and hopefully I'll get the new bulb in tomorrow.

I really think if it's an issue with the bulb... then it's got to be due to the connection of the bulb. The issue of oils from your hand is a novel solution, but it really sounds like you have a more serious issue. Granted the oils from your hand can do that to the bulb, but it would really not cause something as drastic as the bulb going out so quickly.... unless, of course, you really coated the top of that bulb with oil.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having this kind of issue, because it's the type of issue that's very difficult to pinpoint. ....
It's really a matter of how well you know you're car... if you truly can tell that it's idling funny and things are dimming incorrectly, then you should look into other possible issues.
... You may even consider your 60k tune-up now instead of waiting 7k miles.

Next time when you replace the bulbs, wear latex gloves.

As for the 60K service, I only have the rear diff. and spark plugs left to do, as I have done everything else already (oh and the PCV valve too)

Maybe putting in new spark plugs would smooth the car out, but as for now I'm going to put a new bulb in tomorrow and spark plugs in about a week when I get back up to Davis.
