Although Vishnu as a company has gone through typical small business growing pains, they are often tough to get a hold of on the phone, and they are a bit quirky they sell very high quality products and Shiv is probably one of the most intelligent tuners in the industry.

Vishnu remains a very small operation which has it's pros and cons, but they have also pioneered safe tuning for miatas, wrxs and evos.

I have driven Shiv's sub zero, zero and stage one tune for almost 3 years and 30k miles. I do 10-12 track days a year and my engine is running strong. I have recently bought the parts to move to VS 2 (vf34, pinks, wlbro) and I will return to Shiv for a 91 and 100 octane tune and maps.

I prefer to have my cars' ecu tuned properly once and not mess around with the settings unless I change hardware. I would rather work on my driving skills and leave the tuning skills to a professional.

I cannot comment on Cobbs business or quality of tune as I have never needed to go else where.

Good luck!

Jim

If the situation has changed, that's cool, but from what Roo says, it's still the same or close to the same.
The situation has changed drastically.

Before I would have never thought to go to Vishnu, they never answered my calls, emails, PM's, their sales people had attitudes and they were rude in general to a guy who was going to spend 1,100 on their stuff. I said boo rock that and went and made my own turbo back. They lost business, they realized it and. . . .

Now there is a new guy in there, Dave, he is turning the business around, now everyone is answering phones all day, they have people answering emails, and they are outputting more work and more parts. Shiv is a talented guy in a tuning sense, and I would suggest if you are in the area go with a custom dyno tune.

+1 For Vishnu

I wouldn't use either of these companies for tuning, and I have my reasons.

A friend of mine just tuned my car, and its super smooth and powerful.

U guys have to understand:
Everybody has their reasons....just cause somebody may prefer a different tuner doesn't mean they r "missing out".
To each his own.

marksti has a great point. The real person that should answer this question (Vishnu or Cobb) is someone who has/had both fuel map controllers. I have become bias and so has many because they are happy with THEIR Xede or Accessport.

I also do agree the Accesstuner is going to take off if it's everything it's hyped out to be (with the two year wait).

But they make more in a month on Accessports than most other vendors make all year. And it's a great product. If you like paying $650 for one map...be my guest. Watch how fast ECUTek goes bye bye when AccessTuner comes out and there are authorized shops to tune.
1. The AccessPORT has NO CONTROL over the a/f ratio as claimed.

2. The AccessPORT has NO CONTROL over the boost levels achieved by the stock turbo.

3. I have proof that you LOSE whp when using the AccessPORT. Dyno results on my hard drive kind of proof. What kind of proof do YOU have that AccessPORT achieves a gain in overall WHP??

4. AccessTUNER? IF and when that comes out, there aren't any COMPETENT COBB authorized tuners in Northern California who can tune. Because you buy a dynamometer, and spend a couple weeks going to school does not mean you are qualified to risk severely damaging someones vehicle. Especially when you make them sign a non-liability clause. I'd bet I could tune my car better, given the software, and the use of a dyno than Phantom Tuner.

5. Phantom Tuner? Well, read #4, since YOU and I know it applies to YOU!!

I've followed the directions of the lead Cobb tuner, exactly and to the letter, in order to get the best results on the dyno that they can possibly offer with the AccessPORT. Now if I could only get hold of Vishnu to make the runs for the additional proof. Then I can get the vehicle reflashed with the EcuTEK system, gain some REAL whp, and be happy.

I say between the 2....go for vishnu. But then again, shop around with the local tuners and make sure you are happy with your choice.

Uh, yeah, unlike Cobb parts which are designed to turn your car into a huge fireball.

Sorry about not being around. I was in the UK for the last week but just got back today. Give us a call this week and we can set up a time.

To everyone else-- thanks for all the support
