I knew somebody was going to say that. Realistically, it's chicken and egg. Public transit sucks because nobody cares for it, and nobody cares for it because it sucks.

In all fairness, public transit is best in areas of high-density population, which most of the US outside the East Coast simply is not.

Even if we had a kick-*** masstran system in California, it would be severely underutilized because the way our population centers are designed are not very friendly to it.

there use to be a group of whackos... that go around around the california highways going 55 (back when 55 was the speed limit)...

they clogged highways up...

honestly... i think its the slow *** people who cause accidents... they are slow/scared and never sure of where they are going...

If the driving test involved controlling a drift aorund a 200 foot radius hairpin corner, there would never be an accident in America again. lol

i've been thinking about this, and if i had my way, the driving test would have several additional components.

1. threshold/emergency braking (extra mandatory for anyone who shows up for the test in an SUV)

2. swerving to avoid and accident

3. a real freeway section, involving merging, lane changes etc. not travelling the speed of traffic, or not being at full throttle to attain the speed of traffic while merging would result in automatic failure.

4. a wet skidpad car control section, where the driver has to control the car through slalom, an auto-x type course (hit a cone and you fail, but have a max time limit), initiate and correct a slide, swerve to avoid and accident, and demonstrate threshold braking.

5. demonstrate how to change a freakin' tire. i'm sick of seeing people who aren't capable of changing their own goddamn tire if they get a flat.
