I don't think it's really in correlation to spring break. Then why aren't there more cops during summer break then? or winter break?

That's pretty average in that area.

Funds from tickets do not go to the state or CHP, they go to the city or county where the offense was committed.

Maybe you guys should go on a ride-a-long and see what it is like. I did a few years ago in San Diego and it was awesome.

These cities are still in the State, and all are broke.

You will see the CHP fee. That is what is used to run the CHP day to day for the most part. Most tickets in the bay area that money goes to local cities.

Yes the cities are broke. But the Mayors are not telling CHP to go make money. CHP is only holding up the law. The people driving are the ones funding the state, city or what ever. Like I said, The CHP only gets paid by the vehical registration fee's and federal grant money.

I would guess its more about JOBS for the CHP than money.

I am not meaning this is a derogatory way at all but you have to realize there are alot of DESK JOCKEYS in the CHP. What I mean by that is support officers.
They are very needed but the first to get the axe when the budget misers come around.

According to an inside source they are putting alot of officers that would normally reside in the office out on the street for a short time to "increse presense" read write more tickets to help justify thier budget for next FY which will be was proposed in the first quarter of the FY, and will be finalazed in the second quarter if the FY which is very soon.

Hope this helps. Should all blow over soon.

CHP you must be hired by the age of 35 if I remember right. Because you retire at 60 or 65 mandatory.
CHP serves a function. Just think of all the stuff they do that if they were not around or less of them how much worse California would be. As a whole.
And the other things about the old officers. They are all coming up for retirement. But the academy has been not very strong with replacements, and they have not had that many classes roll thru. So you see more older officers out there because there is no one to replace them CHP used to have over 150 unfilled patrol postions open. Course in budget times those were the 1st to get the axe. Then you will see the older guys rolling down the highway more. As the younger crowd gets put in the bankrupt city streets.

Do I think there is some fat trimming to be done? YES its needed with California's government. But no one has the power to do it. And the voters can figure it out to do it as well. I'd start with CARB 1st. **** can the whole CARB dept and hand it back over to the EPA/feds. Take that 150 millon a year and dump it straight into our school system.
