Depending on where the ticket is wrote. The money from the ticket could go to the city and the county before the state. CHP money comes from when you reg your car. Look at fees next time you renew. You will see the CHP fee. That is what is used to run the CHP day to day for the most part. Most tickets in the bay area that money goes to local cities.

Saw 3 CHP on Highway 1 today all chilling with radars (Thank you Valentine One) I wasn't speeding any of those 3 times but it was good to know and watch people slow down once they go around a corner

CHP likes to see each officer have a certain amount of traffic stops/contacts. Nothing about writing tickets.

CHP got me last week on 50 headed to tahoe. Around 11 at night, im the only car on the road, brights on, crusing downhill in neutral. next turn, I find my brights only to reflect off a CHP's door hiding off of a turnout...I knew I was going faster than 55mph so I was totally coropative with the officer, untill he wrote me up for my euro front plate and no proof of insurence...I told my neiighboor who is a chp about this, he looked at the ticket and rite away recongnized the officers name, supposedly he is one of the biggest *******s in El dorado county. Be carful driving up to tahoe fellas. dont get a 450$ ticket

Holy crap! I just took traffic school for my last ticket - on my bike on Hwy 20 from Marysville to Grass Valley. Ticket cost me about $250. Need to get a RAM mount for my V1 on my bike.

Neither have I. What would be the point? They've got you stopped already, why not write the ticket and get full benefit of their time? Sounds like the "number of stops" thing is just a way to say tickets without saying it.

It really depends on the officer that stops you. Many will write you a ticket, but some will feel a talk and just having a presence in the community is enough.
