All automobiles are issued two.
You should read the previous section too

5201. License plates shall at all times be securely fastened to the vehicle for which they are issued so as to prevent the plates from swinging and shall be mounted in a position to be clearly visible, and shall be maintained in a condition so as to be clearly legible. The rear license plate shall be mounted not less than 12 inches nor more than 60 inches from the ground, and the front license plate shall be mounted not more than 60 inches from the ground, except as follows:...
Is there documented proof that a license plate significantly hinders airflow to a front mount intercooler or radiator?
Also: cops should be putting their time into solving serious crimes, a major problem in San Francisco where a lot of homicide goes unsolved. But I guess if license plate disappearances are on the rise the po po has to serve and protect!!

Dude this works.
I figured this one out on my own. The yellow envelope you get the plates in says on it that if you think you got one plate, check again...they are most likely stuck together.
I figured that since they went through the hassle fo printing this on the envelope - it must happen a lot.
So I put the two of them on the rear. This has got me out of this potential ticket three times. I said to officer "I only got one" he said they always issue two... I say "I wonder if they were stuck together, can we look?" They say sure, I say "Wow, I feel like a real jackass, do you have a screwdriver so I can move it?" He says "Just do it right when you get home"
This has happened three times exactly the same way each time....
Another option is to put your i-club stickers on the car, put the fromt plate in the trunk (drive a bit with it on so it gets bugs/dirt) then when pulled over say "Aww, ****....we did a photo shoot for the car club (point to the awesome stickers on the car), and I put the plate in the trunk so my plate numbers wouldn't be displayed on the internet...I have a screwdriver in the trunk. If you would like, I can put it back on right now sir."
Or just put the plate on.....I dont because I think it looks like ish...

Without a FMIC, that whole lower space can be blocked off,.
In other countries there are covers for that area, solid, smoke, crazy teeth, etc.
The part that really sucks these days, is that the old cop guidelines about pulling people over and ticketing parked cars and the like have been tossed out the window.
It amazes me that this has changed.
Before, cops were told explicitly to not pull over cars unless they see them commit a moving violation. This is to avoid the image of harassment and wasting time on minor things because major offenders are always there waiting to be caught.
No getting pulled over for fix-it crap like tint, exhaust, yada yada.
The only fix-it you would get pulled over for was expired tags(cause it might be stolen, people used to switch plates, nice fine there too).
If you committed a moving violation, then they could write you up for all that other crap.
It is kinda of like a police-state now.
A bit disturbing.
A nice CHP fellow at a restaurant told a friend with a souped up Mustang that they are pulling over anyone for any violation.
He even looked over the guys car in the parking lot, and said my friend could leave first so the cop could listen to the exhaust, and oh don't ever let him catch him speeding.
He even gave him a line about the hard economic times, hard measures kind of thing.
Of course this attitude is completely wrong and dumb.
If there is always a speeder around, there is more revenue to be had than a silly front license plate ticket.
So now, the CHP seems to be looking for anything they can get on anyone.
They are also specifically cracking down on exhaust modifications.
Just last week a CHP turned around and came flying up behind me, paced me, decided he couldn't get me for speeding, raced up alongside on the right(cutting off a car as well as preventing me from moving right too), pulled up far enough in front that I could see him look down and back at my grill, to see that, no there wasn't a FMIC, and yes I had my front plate.
After a bit he rolls back alongside, probably checking speed again, then takes off, changes into my lane about a half car length in front of me and heads up the road at like 90mph.
I was glad he didn't think he could pull me over, because he was obviously in a pissy mood.
So I guess now maybe the CHP should change their motto to "to serve and protect, as well as harass and waste everyone's time" because based on everything I have heard and seen lately, that is what they are doing.
Things are pretty bad when the cops start pulling over completely stock cars without any violations hoping to find one.

Fix it ticket for no front license plate: $10
California minimum wage: $6.75
Taking 5 mins of your
employers time to read the thread: $0.56
Having hundreds of people read
your thread at the above rate: $112.50
Comparing the previous line
with the first line instead of
shutting up and paying the fine: Priceless

Cops are not funded by the taxpayer as a revenue generating agency. It ****ing pisses me off that our fine and $hitty liberal society has turned them into meter maids.
Go catch some killers or car jackers you donut eaters!
