CHP tix for no front plate while parked???WTF

I just got a ticket ($80) for no front lic. plate. Is this a violation that you can get while parked? I wasn't even driving / in the car car at the time it was parked in a freaking parking lot!!!!!

I always assumed that it wasn't a ticket you can get while parked. Also I assumed it was a fix-it ticket.

Anyway - CHP Officer Pacheco ID-16286 - for having nothing better to do than to give me a ticket for no front plate. You GOD DAM meter maid, go chase MJ or something..

I dont think they can give you a ticket in a public parking lot. I just took a defensive driving course for work and the instructor told us that police officers cant issued tickets for something you did while in the parking center, also those stop signs inside parking lots, we dont have to stop for them and we can't be citied by a police officer. also it's a fine now for not having a front lic. plate I was told $125. either way I would fight it GL

Yeah, aren't posted signs on private property not legally binding? They can get you towed (privately), but not cited?

No front place is not a moving violation. It is required for there to be a front plate on all vehicles operated upon a california road (assuming the vehicle is registered in california) and since the car was not being trailered it is required that even while parked it must have a front plate.

As for the parking lot issue, the police do have jurisdiction in parking lots where there is a general right to pass issued to all of the public (this goes for schools, shopping centers, and any other place where all public is welcome/generally have a right to pass). If it were a truly private parking lot then they do not have jurisdiction unless they are requested by the property owner or an agent of this owner. So don't go running traffic signs/signals, or parking illegally in public parking areas even though they are on private land.

3 months is pretty recent. I wouldn't be surprised if the fine got heavier in the last couple years because of the red-light cams though.

My brother's friend got a ticket for not having a front license plate on his Camaro. My brother said that the cop said they're not giving fix it tickets anymore, well at least for front license plates. They'll just give you the fine for it. That's what my bro said but i'm not too sure on how accurate the info is.
