i havent been harassed by chp.... yet.
last night i had the worst of luck with sjpd. pulled me over off curtner off 87 because of my exhaust. he checked under my hood and saw the carb sticker on my aem intake and had no clue what my bov and fmic was. he had to ask me twice and wrote it down on his paper pad and left to go ask another cop. then 2 more cops arrived trying to act smart thinking they'll know what it is and proceeded to say "wow, thats the first time ive seen one of those. just write him up for that bov" and he left. great. state ref ticket =[ and after i signed the ticket he said pointing to my front bumper "your body kit is too low and your front plate is illegally mounted [jdm bracket]. wackkk

made me open my hood and yadda yadda = state ref!

when i got pulled over i was passing a cop in the opposite lane in 5th going 40, with a exhaust sorta like evott, and so that was like no sound at all, he just stared at me (cosmetically my car looks modded), and so he went out of his way through traffic weaving in and out of people just to get behind me 1/2 mile later, then pulled me over for "ground shattering exhaust", then popped my hood and poked at the intake and then looked at my hks bov for 5 minutes, poking at it and not knowing what the hell it was, gave me state ref for excessive noise (exhaust), and modified emissions (intake). i guess a lot of cops dont know what bov's look like and some do, just have to be lucky i guess ... only cf i have is my trunk, but i guess that sets them off?

i have a new turbo back to try and look stock, so hopefully the cops don't give me crap. i have the cobb turboback now, and it's pretty loud cuz it's deep, but again it looks stock, and i can be quiet when a cop is behind me from a stop. i'm most scared of cops from stops, cuz engaging and shifting through gears is when your exhaust is loud. just hope chp doesnt pull me over since cobb looks stock. after i got reffed, i put that turbo back on, and i'm debating whether to put my bov back on, but that's the only thing im going to put in the engine bay, but i don't want that tiny little thing to be the reason i go back to ref ...

seriously how is bov that bad.

Someone should make a sticker that signifies a movement against being discriminated on because you drive a sti.

It just really bothers me that various law agencys harass hardworking people because of their taste in sports cars.Because there are few bad apples in the bunch.

WORDS OF ADVICE YOU AND ANYONE ELSE

NEVER SELF-INCRIMINATE YOURSELF!

If he ask you questions, then just tell them you don't know.

Immediately when he pulls you over, tell them I'm sorry and ask them what you did.

If he pulls you over for plates, then that was the violation. And that is it.

He will ask more things about your vehicle because of profiling. Which is not admissible in court. So immediately, let them know that there is nothing on my vehicle that you know of and that "YOU DONT CONSENT A INSPECTION OR SEARCH" He will try to use scare tactics to have you give him consent to inspect/search vehicle. But don't fall for it. The cop will have call to get warrant. This is your right as a citizen.

If you get a ticket, get ticked for what he finds, and NOT from what you tell him.

Sorry I had to get this out. . .

good advice....I've been pulled over for speed a few times, and only once I got a fix-it-ticket (on top of the speeding ticket) for my aux lights mounted on the front on my bumper. (I actually got out of that speeding ticket by trial by written adjudication )

But I know if I get a 'state ref' ticket I'll be screwed.....no cats, 20g upgrade, 800cc injectors and tune....I'll never pass a smog. I won't need to worry about that until 2010 but still......would totally suck.

So if I get pulled over for speed, and the cop asks me to pop the hood, I can refuse?

because if so, I'll definitely refuse...haha.

really, i am a bit iffy about telling him sorry but i'm not going to pop my hood, i mean what's a better way of saying it to him? (i truly have nothing under my hood as of right now -___-, as i stated above i'm contemplating about putting my bov back on), so i mean if he asked to pop it i wouldn't be scared, but it would allow him to see my downpipe (catted yet gutted!).

Actually, you were doing something wrong....driving with no plates.
You do understand he could've been a lot harder on you, like search the vehicle.

Some here may consider this "harassment"; to you I say get a thicker skin.
You'd be amazed at how many bad guys...I mean, really bad guys...are hooked up for something as minor as no plates.

dude,

that's why i asked the age of the OP...

apparently, some here never heard of the 5th amendment. nor the 4th...

most 18-24 year old males, who are the target market for these cars, usually capitulate when they are stopped, "for not doing anything wrong"...

got state ref for a legal sri "spt" intake that even says subaru on the silicone hose the cop says i may hav got it at home depot. Oh and the fact that it has a ARB # sticker, the cop says it could hav been custom made and it looks fake since its kinda paper like material. Anyways thats bs all I did was went to starbucks to get some coffee. Well I did hav a loud exhaust hehe Xs engineering turboback still he could have just gave me a fix it ticket for the exhaust since my intake was dealership item. Thats just messed up i just wanted my car to look good wit an aftermarket sound but cant even do that

Thats fine and all, but where does discretion come into play? So a 32yr old man gets pulled over for no plates. OK, legit reason and the OP was in the wrong, but why threaten to arrest him and make assumptions about illegally modifying his car?

Something tells me that wasn't the biggest fish he could have fried with the time he wasted going off on his power trip.

Once again, CHP FTL.

Oh, and this is another great example of knowing when to play dumb and shut your mouth.
