It sounds like they need a major attitiude adjustment.

However, with respect to not getting a test drive, I remember in the first 6 months of the WRX being out, Carlsen would not allow any test drives. I let three workmates take my own car out, one of whom subsequently purchased a WRX. I feel I should get commission given that they did absolutely jack to make that sale...

Angry had a similar experience with Bianco Subaru in Marin County

My wife and I were on our way to Mt. Tam one day and we drove by Bianco on 101. My parents had just bought a 2002 Outback 2.5, I had bought my WRX about 6mo. earlier. My wife had expressed her interest in an Outback H6. So we stopped at Bianco and peeked through some windows and was greeted by your typical, overly friendly, pushy salesman, He agreed to allow us to test drive an H6, which is a really nice car BTW. So we take a 5 minute ride up and down 101 and bring the car back. As we pull back into the lot, the waiting salesman opens the driver's door before the car came to a stop and puts his hands out for the keys. I hadn't even put the trans in Park yet. This gave me a bad feeling. After I exit the car, I say "this H6 is very quiet and refined.......", before I could finish my statement, he comes right out and asks, "Are you paying cash or do we have to go through the loan paperwork?" I thought he was kidding. But no, he was dead serious. I politely explained that I was happy with my WRX and that my wife was just getting interested in replacing her '98 Golf and that we were considering an Outba......well before I could finish my sentence he turned his back on us and walked away, leaving us standing there like idiots. I was FURIOUS. I had to really control my temper because there was no way I was going to have that little ***** disrespect my wife and myself like that. With clenched fists, I just got in my car and we left. My wife called the dealer and asked for the sales mgr, and the little ***** answers!! She told him off (in her polite manner, not like I would have), and his reply is "are you buying today or not?" Just like that.

Anyway we reported this dealer to SOA, whether anything became of it or not I don't know.

OMG, that is incredible. These guys should be working to make a sale to you. I guess that's why car salesman are used as a 'lowest of the low' yardstick when it comes to retail.

I bought my WRX pretty early (like within 3 months it came out). Before I made up my mind a WRX I tried to get a test drive at Stevens Creek. But the sales guy wouldn't let me test drive it and he said, " this is a good car you don't need to test drive. "

A few weeks later I ended up buying from them (different sales person). This time I made an appointment through emails and phone calls for test drive and talks. I guess what these craps look for is "indications of seriousness". Think about it, who wouldn't want to test drive an Evo?

BTW, A friend of mine tested the Evo at Capitols too. And he said he dressed up and he lied about his job (he said he was a marketing executive at some tech firm) when being asked, but in fact he's not even graduated

My suggestion is just be prepared and dress up if necessary. Just remember, test drives are not free. Good luck!

The best thing to do with cocky salesmen is to bag in their product, intellectually. Yesterday, the wife and I took the car out for a spin (Civic Si). I didn't like it, at all. One of the major things that I disliked about it is the fact that it is made in the UK, and not in Japan. First off, the jackass says, "How do you know where it is made, do you work for Honda."

I said, "No, I know how to read a VIN."

He then told me that it was a Honda, and a Honda is a Honda. I replied with an example. My friend works over at NUMI. They are exporting the Vibe (It's built there) to Japan as a Voltz. Toyota of Japan actually had to send a QC team out from Japan and groom the assemble process. From start to finish. It took months to get them up to spec for the Japanese market. The cars made in America, for American consumption are not comparable to the cars made in Japan for Japanese, or American consumption.

I pulled his beeotch card. I told him that I had no reason to believe that an UK built Civic was any better than a Jag, or a Range Rover (Well document POS's). He couldn't reply...I trumped his ****.

Playing mind games with salesmen is so fun. The try to be arrogant and pushy, and you trump them and walk away...I love it!

OK, so back to the original subject line....

In the latest Autoweek magazine, there is a blurb about the Evo Markup.....and it SPECIFICALLY mentions the $20K markup that Capitol Mitsu had (although it doesn't give the dealer name, it does say a dealer in San Jose).

They called the sales manager of the dealer, and the manager LIED TO THE MAGAZINE! Said the markup was only $4999. This despite the photo floating around the net of the window sticker from the car.....quite clearly showing $20K markup!

Well, if I ever find myself in the unlikely event that I want to buy a Mitsubishi, I think I know which dealer I will NOT be visiting

I was treated the same way at Bianco. I had called earlier the day I went there and said that I just wanted to come down and see what they had in stock and go over some pricing. I was still looking around at different dealerships seeing what kind of prices I could work and they were the only dealer with Sedona Red sedans in my area. Anyways, I talked to the head sales guy I think. He was nice until I mentioned that I wanted Red. Then I said no spoiler, and then he just turned himself off because he knew that I wasn't going to buy it that day. Within the next minute, he had gotten me out of his office and out the door of the building. Not nearly as rude as other people's sotry, but none the less, had he given me the lowest price, I would have never bought my car from that ********.

Thumbs down bianco attitude

I think the guy that turned you off is the same that walked away from us that day.

We put the food on these people's tables with our purchases. I'm in sales, I know, it is all about treating customers AND potential customers with RESPECT.

regards,

Yup, and that real sad thing is that when they were contacted my Auto Week about the above shown sticker, they denied it, and blamed it on a Photoshop job.

I can personally attest to the fact that sticker is genuine. I went and looked.

Farging arseholes!
