You guys suck with all of your options! For many years I have been using a beta version of satelitte connection. It is fast for download but crappy for ping time (I wonder why?!). It's either this or dial-up since DSL doesn't go this far, cable companies wont go to my house, and wireless hasn't made it out here.
6 months in AZ with DSL!!! SPEED!!!!!!!!!

i don't know about covad, but i would just stay with cable (assuming theres not that many people in the area tapping on the line). plus you got a nice deal going hehe.

good choice.
I had nightmares after 6 months with pacbell dsl (2000-2001). really bad latency issues (only 5000 ft from co), connection errors, slow d/l speeds.
So i stuck it out til my contract was up, and managed to pull in a few free months of service to help justify switching to ATT cable with 2 months of dsl contract left.
i havent looked back since.......

Good choice on cable. At&t uses only the best equipment from the best network company in the world. CISCO!!!! Sorry if I'm a little biased working in the Cable BU for Cisco hahahaah. Cable will have more to offer than DSL, it's just a matter of when these services will be available to you the customer. Features like Voice and video over IP and the use of an IP phone are some of the things that will be nice perks to the service. Someone more technical can give light to VOIP but for those who don't know what an IP phone is, basically it cuts out long distance phone calls by using the internet to jump across the distance (free long distance). Also, Cisco Cable hardware offers 5 9 reliability meaning the network is going to be up 99.999% of the time.
I wonder why at&t doesn't offer a cable, phone, and broadband deal?
If only some of the savings they get through new Cisco products lowered the price to end consumers. oh well

As far as DSL goes, I went with Extreme DSL (www.dslextreme.com) as my provider. They use SBC (Pac Hell) lines. My supposed max DL speed is 1500kps. I've seen as high as 1100, but average about 900. Still WAY better than the 144K I had through Covad. I have a static IP address, and could get another one if I wanted for an extra $5 / month. And when I have a problem, I get to deal with Extreme DSL instead of SBC, so if there's an SBC problem, THEY deal with SBC, and since they're a company instead of an individual, they actually get a quick response. Earlier this week, we were having major connectivity problems (probably due to all the rain), I called Extreme, they called SBC, SBC had somebody out to the house within 24 hours, figured out what the problem was, and fixed it.
