I'm also a member over there, and BARF is not unlike The Onion. I take it all with a grain of salt over there.

That said, of course there will be a pro biker bias over there. Again, with a grain of salt.

Bottom line is that if you ride like a fool on 2 wheels or 4, you run the risk of finding out if there is an after life a bit early. I learned to ride a motorcycle on downtown SF streets, I'm still here. I also took many trips up to the 'hills', I'm still here. Why? Because I didn't ride like a fool.

And anyone who thinks a 300 pound bike hurled into a car at 70mph+ can't do any damage to the cage occupants is delusional.

Anyone with an ounce of brains knows that a motorcycle will cause damage, but "your" a fool if you don't recognize that there is a much higher probability for motorcyclist injury than there is for the people surrounded by a metal cage.

Probably the same percentage of people who are responsible car drivers.

NOTE: I have a very low opinion of most people on the road, so don't take that statement to mean a high percentage. If I had to pick a number, I'd say 5-10% of the people on the road, car OR bike, are responsible.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Don't ***** and moan about cars "not seeing you." Because I don't always see something going 150MPH coming up behind me. I have nothing wrong with responsible bikers, its the morons (and there does seem to be a high percentage of bikers that are morons) that I hate. I'm not going to say they should die, I'm going to say that they shouldn't ***** and moan when their stupidity leads to injury.
if you research it you will find most motorcycle deaths are caused by failure to give right of way to motorcycles (ie - turn left across intersection while motorcycle is going straight, turn left into a parking lot with a motorcycle comming from the other way)

edit: btw my bike tops out at 100 (full tuck, half tank)
and yes the morons ruin it for everyone else just like the guy in the picture from this thread.

What?

Dude.. I was riding bikes and crashed on the street for the 1st time before you got on your bicycle I bet. I have over 20 years on the street, 12 years working in major racing arena...

Crashed 3 times on the street...
1st Racing a vette out on marsh creek road. Hit a squarl and washed the front out.
2nd Got clipped by a car swing the old YV ramp off 24 in walnut creek. Yeah I went down hard on that one.
3rd Black ice having to ride home in snow in New Mexico.

Racing? Maybe once a season.

What are you going to tell me I dont already know? That I have not seen? Nothing... Your views is about it...

Facts are that if you hit a car with a motorcycle you can kill someone. If a car hits a motorcycle they can kill someone.

These threads really **** me off. The other BARF thread that got me pissed. Is where they seem to think its ok to hit or break a mirror off a car because the person didnt see them. They seem to think if you start to move over into your lane Its ok to damage your car and drive off. WTF.... So now they dont have a mirror they really will not see you in the future. Accidents are just that...... Now if someone is really trying to hit you... Thats differant.

B.T.W. My parents gave me a month or less to live after I got my 1st sport bike. Well I am still here...

What is your racing experience? What do you ride now? I remember seeing you have a helmet the first day of AJ.

I<3Subie, Now I haven't been riding nearly long as you have but I completely agree with you. And, if i guessed your BARF identity correctly, nice collection

I went down on the street a couple years ago. Without going into all the details, CHP found the driver of the car in the accident at fault. But, it was just that: an accident. I hold no ill will to the driver because he: 1) admitted fault 2) stayed with me until I was taken away by EMTs and 3) took responsibility.

I hate seeing threads like this because it only makes things worse. Riders need to remember that the best thing to do when confronted with stupid/angry/oblivious drivers is to get over it. Motorcycles don't win fights with cars. Reacting only pisses off the drivers. Just ride away, get on with your life, and be glad you made it home to ride another day.

I'm right there with ya bro (I'm old) been riding street since about the end of 1988 3 years racing afm in the 90's and dirt since 1982 and couldn't agree more. My parents were the same way but I managed to survive this long so I must be doin something right too

if there is a bike and car collision NO ONE wins (see below). Most 600cc bikes are 300+ lbs and liter bikes about 400+ lbs. They can do signifigant damage impacting your car or truck.

Besides some club racing. I have worked in AMA. WSBK, MotoGP and have built a few bikes for some famous people.
Also my last job I walked away from was around motorcycles. I have not worked in the last 4 months now. I'm going back to school for a better life..

My wheels of choice.... Ducati.. In the "cars other then your subaru" thread I posted up a handful of them.

debbid: Thanks..... Its a never ending collection / battle..
And alot of those guys are very cool and nice folks, I just cant understand their thinking sometimes.

I wouldve taken out about 5 bikes in my life, that were hugging the line and bodies hanging in MY lane! But im the 1% of responsible drivers, and i drive as far right as possible, which is why my whole right side is scratched up from brush.

riders in the mtns are pretty responsible...it takes ***** to turn and dodge trees. I'd 50% are smart and safe, meaning they don't let their egos get in the way...then get down into the Bay area and that goes down to 10% probably.

yeah, if a 150lb deer standing still can total a car, 4 cylinder flying through the air can cause a S load of damage to both parties.

you must not be familiar with traffic conditions in southeast asia.

but yeah...these days...it's just better to be courteous to everyone. like someone said you never know who's under that helmet, or who's inside that cage. could be a cop...could be a psychopath with a gun that you just pushed past the limit.

haha true that. But we have *some* organization as far as not cutting across 6 lanes with 5 family members hanging off lol, i doubt that would ever happen.

I just figure a 4 lane highway would be an 8 lane highway if we had moto lanes. that would be sweet.
