Oh, you lucky little bastard! (Im the only one that can call you little! ha!)

That M1A is sweeeeeeet! Looks like mine exactly minus the barrel. I have the 22" version with the rails.

The XD is spectacular also... Made in Croatia, just like me! (You know it's a rebadged HS2000 right? w00t!). Love my XD-40, looks just like yours but mine is all black. I wish I would have gotten the .45, but when I bought mine the .45 wasn't even a glimmer in springfields eyes. ( It was either the .40 or 9mm, and I chose .40 for ballistics and mag capacity. (rather have 10 .40s than 10 9mms) Almost got the OD green version, but I like my weapons black and evil to annoy whiney liberals.

I love bringing the AR-15 or AK with drum mag or banana mags to the range just because there are people who complain every single time! Bastards! I pretty much tell them to shove it up their asses and tell them to move to France.

EDITED FOR MORE INFO.

Oh yeah, and CONGRATS!!! You spent some f'ing DOUGH!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the M1A? I was looking at getting another, this time the Socom II like you have because I like the 16" versatility of it. I know the ballistics aren't as great, blah blah blah, but how often does anyone shoot at 1000 yards? Like seriously? 308 and 16" = teh win for almost ALL situations whereas the 22" version isn't as mobile and is just for distance

Anyway, I was being quoted around $1,800 from my FFL without the fees. The catch is I have to wait like 2 months for it... Bleh. Think I'd rather pay the extra to have it NOW! Did you get any lower? If so, where?

Great gun on the M1a but I'd have went without the rail. That things got enough weight on it as it is. As far as the XD, to each his own.

BTW, as the SOCOM II is an LEO Weapon, it is not mine.
Neither is the pistol.

The SOCOM is amazingly light.

The VLTOR CAS-14 rail system adds about 2 pounds to the front of the gun over the SOCOM 16, but adds versatility in CQB and home defense.

The SOCOM II is an 11lb gun before dangling any additional weight from the rail, so unless you're built like a pack mule, you're not going to want to be humping the weapon for long distances. Then again, that's not what it was designed for anyway.

Either way, the SOCOM is a very nice shooting weapon thanks to the very effective muzzle brake. I found the II to be slower handling than the 16, but not enough to outweigh the benefits of the rails in CQB/HD type situations.

Heh, enough rambling from me.

Now get some rail covers for that "cheese grater."

You can buy a socom II legally here in CA. Just have to remove that flash suppressor and install a muzzle brake.

The rail is a liability in both CQB and HD. How many homeowners wake up in the middle of the night with their PVS 14s and PEQ 2 on ready to lay waste to intruders? None that I know. If you're attaching a Surefire do yourself a favor and use a tactical shotgun.

All you need on that weapon is an ACOG or Eotech and potentially a PEQ for militiary shooters.

I would NEVER use an M1A for home defense, EVER!!! 7.62NATO has INCREDIBLE penetrating power which means that it will not only go through the person, it will also go through the seven walls between you and your now dead neighbor.

Shotgun or pistol with JHP rounds, like a .45 are best. Shotgun is greatest in terms of ballistics, but they tend to be really large and difficult to fumble, especially if you are hurt/stabbed/shot. Pistol wins that round.

Totally agree which is exactly why I posted what I did. I have 2 pistols, an HK USP tactical which stays in it's case unless I'm using it and a Glock 29 with a magazine full of frangible 10mm rounds for the idiot who tries to rob me. That's also my daily carry.

The SOCOM is in my opinion one of the finest weapons ever made but if you use that rail for all it's worth you might as well run around with a Civil War era musket because that's about how quick you'll be able to bring it up. I've always been a fan of an Eotech on a 7.62 round. Great MOUT/city movement ability and it comes up quick with accuracy.

You are correct about the flash hider/muzzle brake, but as configured, the box had a big, bright green sticker saying "FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT USE ONLY!"

Sacramento Armory, which has been in business forever, is closing it's doors.
Buddy got the M1A for ~$1500 otd.

You've got until October 17th, although a lot of the inventory is now gone.
