yes they were, but they were flown in on a c5 or a c130 along with a couple chinooks. they didn't enter pakistan in the blackhawks.

i think what wasn't told, was what we were doing to their defense systems, like radars, etc. as we were coming in. and i think the pakistani's didn't want to tell anyone that all their defense systems were "not working properly" for a while... =)

"Five aircraft flew from Jalalabad, Afghanistan, with three school-bus-size Chinook helicopters landing in a deserted area roughly two-thirds of the way to bin Laden’s compound in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, two of the officials explained."

why weren't these found by pakistani defenses? my guess is that we crashed/jammed their systems.

and, i wouldn't doubt for one second that the pakistani's try to undermine US intelligence agencies, nothing really new there.

and just another guess, but i personally think we have bin laden's head. his body is crab meat, but i bet we have his head in a jar somewhere.

Where did you get that from? The article said five aircraft flew in. Three Chinooks and the two blackhawks.

either way, 3 chinooks and 2 blackhawks would show up on radars or anyone's defense systems. the point here was that there was nothing stated at all about how they got in un-noticed. do you know how far abbotobad is from the border?

they don't explicity state that either though, that there was 3 chinooks and 2 blackhawks only.

i think only a handful of people know the "whole" story, is also part of my point here, as this article is from the navy times, so it must be a bit biased.

also, i heard that we had f117's circling and ready to put out some lazer guided bombs just in case the whole mission was compromised.

3+2=5

The article explicitly said "5 aircraft". Just wondering where you got that they flew the blackhawks in on c130's and then stopped, unloaded them, then flew the rest of the way in.

From that section of the article:

Five aircraft flew from Jalalabad, Afghanistan, with three school-bus-size Chinook helicopters landing in a deserted area roughly two-thirds of the way to bin Laden’s compound in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad, two of the officials explained.

Aboard two Black Hawk helicopters were 23 SEALs, an interpreter and a tracking dog named Cairo. Nineteen SEALs would enter the compound, and three of them would find bin Laden, one official said, providing the exact numbers for the first time.

Aboard the Chinooks were two dozen more SEALs, as backup.

i doubt it was really only 5 aircraft. the odds of them flying 5 birds in packed with the most potent/secret weapons in americas arsenal without any backup? yah right.

since it was a CIA led op, chances are, CIA unmanned birds were in the air shooting live video back to the WH...

maybe some USAF PJs were in other helos (over the border) ready to go in case of massive casualties...
