Brake Pad replacement help
Brake Pad replacement help
I'm going to change my pads on my STI for the first time and was wondering if someone could help me out on one pad change? I've read the tutorials, but would rather have someone who is experience to help the first time. I live in Fremont but can meet you else where. I only need someone to show me on one pad and I will be set.
thanks,
Dave

well, since it is raining my drive way is wet so I can't help. :\
I just did my pads and rotors for the first time on my WRX and it was pretty easy.
I found this how to to be more then enough to find what I needed:
http://www.weblumen.com/subaru/brakepads.html
You will need a 14mm, 19mm, and maybe a 13mm socket. a 14" ratchet, a socket extention(only a 2-3"), a small flat head screw driver to pull the shims apart and grease them.
When you bed them in properly they will probably smoke like a ****, my Hawk HPS pads did.
It may have been the amount of brake grease I put on, but it only smoked the first time, then the pedal wish a tad mushy the next day, but I gave it 5 or 6 good hard to the floor squezes and it was back to normal.

mcdrama,
The STI Brembos are a little different than the ones on teh WRX. Thanks for the link though. I basically need someon to show me how to push the piston back in on the Brembos. Will a tool make this easier?
thanks,
Dave

You can use that or if you have a vise sitting in the garage somewhere...

or if you have hands, you can use those too. ive never used a brake pad spreader in my life.
just make sure that you dont push the pistons one at a time. if one comes out, your SOL.
usually what i do, is after loosening the caliper bolt, you can push the pistons all the way in while the pad is still in there. just rock is back and forth so you get some added leverage.
