If I were the oil companies and heard comsumers threatening a boycott of gas... I think I'd laugh out loud. It'd be like hearing your teenager all pissed off about not being able to stay out all night, threatening to move out, and how they won't make such unresonable and "unfair" rules for their kids. Uh huh, sure little Timmy. Whatever you say. Now go to your room.

As a whole globally there is a shortage of oil... (for example CNOOC bidding for Unocal because they lack the resources to supply more oil, PetroChina and some company in India bidding for PetroKahzakstan, etc.)... as a result, prices are being driven up. the hurricane katrina as someone mentioned killed a lot of oil rigs in the gulf and as a result has hindered production and shortened supply even more, raising prices. boycotting gas stations for a day or even a month won't alleviate the prices... it's tied globally to reflect what the economic situation is not only in the US...

glad for once to not be driving any time soon

Well I'm on day 9 of my gas boycott.

Everybody else OK with the $3 plus these days?

Futures for gas dropped below $2 on this mornings trading, gotta love that free market supply and demand based economy!
