FULL CONTACT, LEG KICKS, FACEPUNCHING, AND CLINCHING! WITH NO PADS!
Kidding, kidding.
Dude, relax. Didn't you see the LoL face after my comment?
I could tell you all about MY experience in Muay Thai, Judo, BJJ, and the World Oyama Karate organization, but I'm not all butt hurt about this whole style vs. style thing so there's no reason for me to beat my chest and grunt about it.
Besides, everyone knows no touch dim mak is t3h b3sT!

Heh, no worries, anyone can find any way to bash a style.
Muay Thai: no groundfighting, crappy throws, Ong Bak nutriders
Kyokushin Kaikan: no facepunching, lousy knees, poor clinch work
WTF TKD: You fill in the blanks
ITF TKD: no low kicks, North Korean
Judo: no striking whatsoever, excessive turtling on the bottom, always giving up the back in the mount, stalling in newaza
BJJ: no standing game whatsoever, Gracies get annoying to listen to after a while, you have to look at Helio's face every time you practice, Rickson nutriders
Kung fu: Ha!
Post-"Ultimate Fighter" MMA nutriders: DOUBLE HA!
JKD: limb trapping self-delusion, Bruce Lee nutriders
I could go on all day
That's why my philosophy is, find a strong base style and fill in the gaps with a supplementary style once you have your base down. That's why I started in Muay Thai then added Judo and BJJ. Then I got involved with the full contact knockdown karate guys at the invitation of a friend, and damn those guys are tough as nails

I went with Hapkido, which is a mix of TKD and JJ to some degree. Its a reasonably good combo, but even it is missing somethings I feel. I need to feel more comfotable with it before I add a 3rd style, but Hapkido + Shotokan has been pretty decent.

I used to study at the Hapkido Institute in North Beach under Steve Menasche, but now that I have moved to West Portal and am switching to Hapkido USA on Taraval.

Pankration: it's been so many centuries, how do we know that the Ancient Greeks really fought like that?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rnkJsZJAZV4
Plus modern pankration has no ground and pound IIRC.
Vale Tudo: It's not a style, it's a rule set. Plus, watch Rey Zulu vs. Rickson and tell me you didn't get bored out of your mind
Combat Sambo: ummm, the kurtka and bike shorts combo looks stupid

Hey, I trained with the World Oyama Karate guys across the street a few years ago. You should check them out! There are a lot of students from Japan that come from other knockdown karate organizations (IKO1, IKO2, etc.) that train there as well since they and the Enshin school in J-Town are the only Kyokushin-style schools in SF.
