Keeble and Schucat in Palo Alto has EVERYTHING!def worth checking out. they also have a used section and rental dept. Seriously like the size of a restaurant worth of camera stuff.

They are a bit pricey, but pretty much average for a "store" and not online

Mind if I ask why the Leica and not a less expensive Power Shot? I'm guessing it's for the manual controls?

Keeble and Schucat in Palo Alto those guys are great people even if they charge a bit more. I would highly recommend them because when you call BH Photo to order something, you need to know what you want and have done you research because they are a price discount shop. On the other hand if you want service and great advice, Keeble and Schucat in Palo Alto are some of the very few camera stores left to have real humans/professionals help you. I love those guys.

NOT. Nikon and Cannon lenses are ALL 'in house'. Who's better? Do you prefer Porsche or Lotus, or Corvette.

These days Cannon and Nikon are dead *** =. It boils down to taste and prejudice!

here are my reasons:

Canon: 5 fps $500 cheaper than Nikon's 5 fps, and cheaper bodies
Nikon: Better user interface IMO Better lens selection, i think for the price, more used stuff on Craigslist

and drumroll...hit delete button twice=DELETE! GENIUS...no hitting delete...then scrrrrroling sideways to confirm "YES IM F***ING SURE I WANT TO DELETE!!!@#%"

well its not for me.

i'm a canon person myself. i'm trying to help out one of my customers. he's going to be traveling to china this coming christmas and doesnt wanna take his d200 with him. and is in the market for a small compact camera w/ the versatility of the d200... and the leica dlux3 is the best compromise he can find.

and howcome Canons avg lens range starts at 28mm when Nikons is 18?!! thats like a useful 2 inches of photo that gets pushed out of frame.

yeah Canon has 18's, but theyre either expensive, or only have a range of 18-75ish

Nikon has the 18-135 for $250 used also 18-200 which is so sexy
then i will get a 70-300 for $150 and be set

I love the Nikkor 18-200mm. It's so versatile and definitely comes in handy when you go out not knowing what kind of photos you're going to take. It comes in handy for nearly everything besides macro shooting. The minimum focus range is too long for that (1.6 ft).

Other than macro, you can shoot nice wide angles to tight zooms with minimal distortion and the VR makes it even that much more versatile. Even if the distortion is too much for your liking, there's always Photo Shop.

All I have for my D40 is the kit lens and the 18-200. Since I'm just a casual shooter I haven't found much need for any other lenses.

Hey there. Have you tried the D50? I've narrow it down to the D40 and the D50. I'm trying to get some opinions from folks that have tried both, but I mean, since you got the D40, I would like your opinion on it too. Oh also, have you tried the Canon's XT? I'm just trying to know how the folks feel when they hold these cameras. Yeah, I know lense is the main thing to worry about. But, I also look into the feel of the camera. I've tried the Canon Powershot, and it was way too small for my liking. I was thinking about either the D40 or the Rebel XT, but after looking at side by side pics of the body of both, I've then decided to take the XT off the list, and while I was doing that, I saw the D50...anyone wanna chime in on this?

oh and since I'll be getting either the D40 kit or the D50 kit, I'll be using the 18-55mm lense, so the picture quality will be very close to eachother

D50 has 2.5 fps, the D40 has 3fps...pretty much the same but great pictures are caught in 100th of a second so it may help you if you take burst shots like skateboarding or other sports.

D40 Its small and will not be comfortable in large hands. I really dont see a point of making such a small DSLR...i mean cmon its an SLR!!! theres no advantage to having it so small...its not like it makes it easier to put in your pocket!!!

D40s do not have internal focusing motors, so youre required to buy the AF-S lens that are usually $100's more Than non AFS...for example a 70-300 lens can be had for $150 non-AFS....the 70-300 AFS one is like $550!

Hint: Never blame the tools ~ Ernst Haas could make magic with a Lieca and 50mm lens. An artist uses the brushes he has ~
