Now if you're going for a gnarly ground up build. Built motor and the whole 9. Starting with an STI is pointless. Buy the most gutted WRX or even RS that you can find.
Okay well im not looking to do a magazine ready build lol but I am going to do a very nice build mostly setup for daily driving and weekwnd fun. The sti already has a little more power and the interior, tranny, axels, exc... all of those little upgrades are the things that have been pulling me back to one. I think I am set on an 02-03 building a 2.0 block and getting a sti tranny. I figured I would have a car to drive and then take on the rebuild myself.

If you're going to go that route then the thing to do is find yourself a JDM 6 speed trans swap.

It's non DCCD. No controllers or ECU's or anything like that. Better set up.

that might fit your needs. high mileage sti for cheap. the money you save you can build a motor with.

175k is a lot of miles that I would rather be putting it lol. I'm still sticking to the bugeye plan unless something else that's a killer deal comes along.
