Please clarify why a 2.5 is better than a 2.0 built or unbuilt.

Most built cars/motors have more issues than than OEM ones. What's the point of writing something if no one can understand what you meant to say?

To each his own opinion but from what I have seen and I have seen quite a few built motors they dont seem to have any problems when you go to a reputable place. I dont really want to thread jack so im stopping it at that and let the OP decide what he wants.

What else do you want to know? Specifically what I would change in these motors part by part? If so I'll make a list lol. I personally looked into getting a built motor but at the same time I had no time at all. Don't get me wrong... Subaru motors are great but I came from a car that was 400hp to around 290ish now and I love it it honestly depends on what you do with your car. If I had my old car I'd put more into suspension which is what I'm doing now and making my ride comfy and feel safe

Okay ive spent a while calculating and number crunching to see what my budguet is... My final decision is to get a bugeye with less then 140k and build a ej20 motor on my days off. I figured this way I would be able to have a bugeye still daily drive it and mod it the way I please! I have also needed a good garage project!

Nice choice I was not sure what you were planning to do for the car but either way good luck and hope to see the car on the road sometime soon

Depends on the price point and the end goal.

STI...

6spd.
DCCD
Brembos
Better interior.
2.5 liter.

It's a better starting point if you're only going to do mild bolt ons.

Now if you're going for a gnarly ground up build. Built motor and the whole 9. Starting with an STI is pointless. Buy the most gutted WRX or even RS that you can find.

Eh the interior is meh but compared to the 04-07 wrx yeah better. Brembos are great but there's better brakes for a better price. 6 speed for sure is a better tranny but dccd sucks.... unless you have dccd pro. 2.5L could be a debate depending on what kind if power delivery is wanted. I say overall. 2.0 is a better bet.

Ray thanks for finally elaborating on this topic. Some seem to not be able to. They hear STi and pop a stiffy I hate that and you know me.

werd.

it's really not worth the extra dough if you're gonna be upgrading the block and the brakes anyways.
