I mean by if your going to rebuild your engine you may as well do forged pistons and what not and make it pro if your going to spend the money on it. Its not worth rebuilding the stock wrx engine at least from my research because when I was looking into the bug eyes... The ones with blow engines + parts = half the cost of a new WRX. Depends how much is salvageable. Also depends if your going with new or used parts... With an engine rebuild personally I would rather have everything completely new so I know nothing fails.

I don't see why you would suggest an STi over a bugeye or vice versa with this statement....

Well if the STi is in a good condition then I am suggesting him to go for it. If it has a blown engine on the other hand... still the same situation as previously that if your going to build your engine, build it awesome :P

Alrighty... I am essentially saying I would rather go with a built engine rather than a rebuilt stock engine. Thats to my preface... Now I should have stated that if he wants to go ahead and rebuild the engine to stock specs or just do minor upgrades than go for it.. If he wants an STi that is already working than go for it. Its really under his preference to what he wants to do and how much he wants to spend. All I am saying is that if I was in his situation I would most likely go after the already working car due to time constraints ( at least for me.. only reason I went with a WRX instead of an STi.. My old car had a blown engine and I didnt have time to rebuild it nor were there any STi's locally that I could purchase) Moral of the story... The OP needs to decide whether he has the time to do an engine rebuild, or if he doesnt and wants a working car.
