You should DEFINITLY come out, though, and see if its interesting.
To race, you'll need the SCCA membership (like $45), a helmet (you can borrow one from the locla club, a fellow WRXer (you can borrow mine) or buy one (SA2000 or M2000, $100 for something passable). Each event is $30. Once you get into it, you'll start wanting better tires.
So, basically, your first day out startup cost is $45+$30. Next day drop the $45 for the membership, then add $100 for the helmet.

I'm definitely going to be there...good time to test how the Dunlop Super Sport unshaved will do in the wet. Hopefully it's not going to be pouring when I'm working.

coolio. i'll put them on today after work.
s-03s have superior tread compound for the wet, so running those with 1/3 life should be ok. puddles might suck, but wet pavement is ok. i just hate the gravel!!!

Auto-X is a blast - do it if you have the time and some spare cash. it's not expensive considering but it adds up and you will need to get brakes and tires serviced more often.
The things you need are
1. A sports car in good working condition. There is a tech check to make sure you are not leaking anything or anything is loose
2. An SCCA membership
3. A helmet. You can try to borrow one on the day your first time but its better to have your own or borrow one from a motorcylist friend. Just make sure its a SNELL 2000 rated helmet. They check. A DOT rated helment and helments older that 1995 are not accepted. The 2000 indicates the year and the helmet must be less than 10 years old. If you are going to buy you may want to spend a bit more and get an SA (motor sport) helmet rather than an MA since events beyond autocross/rally cross require SA. The main difference is fire retardency. They are at least $50 more and harder to find. Here's one place to look

Oh and SCCA calls Autocross, SOLO 2 in case you are confused.
Other racing organizations and clubs also have autocross programs but the SCCA is the biggest in the bay area.
For even more fun there's Rally Cross. The same idea but on dirt. Only trouble with that is you have to drive to Thunderhill, 120+ miles away for the closest venue and you car will get dirty which matters to some.

RallyX is farther away, but costs less to enter, and is 4 runs whereas AutoX is 3, and there are almost always 'fun runs' at the end of the day. RallyX is a lot more dirty, but I thought Subarus were sapposed to be covered with dirt.

So for SF autocrosses that most people do, they get 3 runs in? like 3 runs around the autocross course, how long is each run usually around, the average time? so 30 dollars for the 3 runs...do u guys think its worth it?

3 runs, about 1 minute per run. Given that its one of the few ways you can race a mostly stock car with very little investment, its worth $30 for a chance to run the car like a crazy with no chance of accident or speeding ticket.

It's worth it...
I think it's totally worth it. You meet great people, get to see a lot of nice cars getting driven hard, you get to see some spinouts, and best of all, you can rip your car around corners with confidence instead of worrying about Five-0...
