I don't think this is meant to dethrone facebook in anyway. Knowing who started/owns it I can't see it that way.
i just got on ello.
it seems dumb. it's just people sharing huge *** random images
it's like twitter but with the images loaded instead of linked. and i hate twitter
plus people use instagram already and twitter like crazy
why use ello?...

You forgot to mention the geocities/livejournal -> myspace progression! Heh, sadly I'm with ya 100%. Still shaking my head at orkut, livejournal, tumblr,
then badoo, insert flavor of the week, etc.
