Ohhh, "We're the antithesis to facebook." - Ello

Ohhh, "We're the antithesis to MySpace and Forums." - Facebook/Zuckerberg

Ohhh, "We're the antithesis to BBS's and actual interactions." - MySpace

Ohhh, "Look something to do when your not playing around in Kings Quest and Chess and want cheats." - BBS's

Putting popcorn in microwave for this one, call me an old coot.

I miss my old BBS. I miss a lot of the old school culture associated with dial up systems. I am only 32 but I got into it around 11 or 12 and they all kinda petered out when I was in high school.

I am not on ello but I am getting pretty fed up with facebook. Too much of the same **** regurgitated everwhere, facebook, intagram, and even here on i-club. People spam the same **** everywhere and now I guess there is one more place for it.

So... they don't data mine, and they don't have advertising.

No revenue sources, a bad graphical layout.

My take on it is that all of these social networks will pop up, but no one has the power that Facebook does - both connect you and allow you to share everything, and to steal your information (legally) and sell it to anyone they want.

Ello, Google+, and all the others will start as a great way to have privacy, but as they grow, they realize that in all the wrong ways, they can't control privacy, and in all the wrong ways, they can.

In 2-4 years, my guess is that Ello, like all the others, will change privacy policy and start selling your information for marketing because they'll realize that without that, social networking is completely valueless as far as real world money goes.

Revenue is going to come from sales. There will be updates, and features users can buy into for a small sum of money.

There can't be that many people that buy addons to keep ello profitable in the long term. Everyone succumbs to the ad gods sooner or later. I highly doubt this will dethrone facebook.

Why would someone want to pay for something they can get for free?

I would pay a premium to have TV shows with no commercials.

I already pay for Pandora and iTunes Radio subscriptions so I don't have to listen to ads.

I would do the same for a website I check a gabillion times each day.
